Why not just pull the engine out and see what it damaged?

Nah, giving Dodge Magnums a run for their money isn't worth the headache. ;)

If your crank is broken the chances of the rest of the bottom end being good still are slim to none. You are gonna have to pull the motor and inspect the block inside and out. And you still wont be able to trust it 100%. I say get a new used M20, Since you say you dont want to do an engine swap. Should be able to find one for cheap(less than $500 for sure). Check the for sale section.

Dodge Magnums are a joke, why are they being discussed here?

Damn, a broken crankshaft? Excellent.. pictures please? If I'd broken a single crankshaft (not to mention it appears that you have broken several?) I would just get something more modern. If you are breaking crankshafts your driving habits warrant getting something that is made for dealing with that kind of beating.

Because last night on the way back from Boston, a lightly modded Magnum
pulled into my lane, a very short distance from my bumper. It then proceeded to downshift and make a lot of noise and blow some smoke at me to show how tough it was. I gave it a few lengths before I decided I MUST have more of that amazing sound and gave chase. I swear I could have caught the thing with my M20, I had to keep backing off the gas...

Moving on: Yeah, new motor is the way to go. The bottom end is probably fucked and you KNOW the top end is fucked too because there must have been some piston contact.

There is a possibility that the pistons didn't contact the valves.

But what I'm curious about is how the OP knows the crank is broken. Did you drop the pan or something? And how the hell did you go about breaking the crank?

Just replace the motor. Atleast do a full rebuild on this motor, and if your gonna put that money into it, dump a 24valve motor in instead of dealing with the m20. Or I guess you could put a bunch of money into a different m20 in its place.

You could always gorilla glue it back together if you don't wanna spend the money...
