What is the deal with suede?

I am not a fan of suede. It is just a personal preference. I know a lot of people who like suede and I don't have a problem with it. Like I said, it is just personal preference and we all have unique preferences. For those who like suede, why do you like it more than smooth leather? What are it's benefits over smooth leather?

Since I have never cared much for suede, I have never looked into any of it's qualities. I'm just curious...that is all.

Suede is so soft...it kinda reminds me of a girl who shaves smooth and it grows out a little bit. It is fun to rub.

Man, that puts a whole new spin on the "shuffle steer" technique.

The only suede i have sat in seemed to grip better, but they would go out quicker, get dirtier. fake suede seems to grip as well, but hold up much better. plus it feels nicer then leather imo

You better just take a nap, grab a beer, and then give me a call this afternoon. It sound like you are REALLY bored today. :P

That's why BMW uses Alcantara (a.k.a. fake suede) especially on its performance models. Grips well and wears much better than real suede or leather.

How do you think an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel would hold up? I know real suede goes to shit almost instantly, but alcantara is susposed to hold up to 2000 double rubs and such. Anyone know?
