This one is for all you computer geniuses out there. We just got a new computer (HP Pavilion a600n). I hooked it all up, and everything is running fine. It's much faster than our old piece of crap. But the internet is just butt slow right now. We have verizon DSL...and it's not usually that quick, but it's not nearly this bad either. Do I need to re-configure it for the new comp or something? I don't know how to do much with computers. Any help is appreciated.

Did you unplug the modem when you swapped the connection between computers? If not, unplug it and allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes, then reconnect it. Then go to the "Network Connections" menu in Control Panel, right click on your connection (should be "Local Area Connection" or something similar) and click Repair.

I tried that...and no luck. The internet is still awesomely slow. On a scale of 1 to really-frickin-slow, i'd give it an 11.
The only thing I can think of is that this computer has a firewall, which I don't think our last one did. Could that be part of the reason? If so, what can I do about it?
We're switching to cable in a week, so it's not a huge deal...but in the meantime, this is painful.

Did you try calling your provider's tech support line? They can probably help you better than the guys on here.

I'm just going to take it back to the store (Circuit City) tommorow. I found another problem, as well. Some of the programs don't open. Like I'll click on Norton Antivirus and nothing will happen, or it will flash on the screen for a milisecond and then go away. I think the sold us a faulty something or other. We'll see tommorow though. Thanks for the input anyways guys.
