So I just got a new car, 1991 BMW 325i alpineweiss coupe. and when I drive it sputters like ill hit the gas and be driving fine and then it will jsut choke and sputter and it wont respond when I hit the gas. and it just does this whenever,, never dies just doesnt seem to be getting fuel. I think its the AFM not letting the engine get enough air because I just put a fuel pump in that I know works. and the car was doing this before I bought it. second guess would be the fuel filter. anyone know where this is located and how easy it is to change?

Thank you but I honestly dont think AIDS is the problem lol. But to DCC I went there today and I checked the MIL light and it doesnt come on and I even changed the AFM, and put fuel injector cleaner in it. It ran fine for a bit, but then again it started, it sputtered seemed to be over fueled like to much gas or not enough air( I dont smell Gas though) do you think back pressure could be a problem since they gutted the cat? I am going to replace the fuel filter too but I havent dont that yet.

Don't mind them, they're insane.
It's very difficult to diagnose a problem in a thread.
From what you are descibing it could be a zillion things.
1st thing is to start at the basics. you need to find out if it's IGN or Fuel or both that is effing up.
Here are a few things that are "pattern failures" that it could be.
DME Relay.
Bad Connection at the round MIL SPEC plug under the manifold.
Bad Connection at the DME.
Bad Connection at the Temp sensor (the Blue one buried at the top of the T/S housing)
Defective Fuel Pressure regulator (leaks fuel into the vacuume line...usually turns on the MIL)
Fried HT Cap and Rotor ("Distributor")
These are the 1st things I'd look at if it rolled into the shop....Let me know.

So I looked at it today and the engine light never came on, not even a blink. I really think its starving for fuel because I dont smell extra gas so Its not flooding out, and it only does it once it holds at a rev for awhile. I am going to change the fuel filter but I just couldnt do it today it was soooooooooo hot outside and i had already done the lights and the AFM. So next on the list is the Fuel filter after that ill see what the shop says.
