Interesting, especially the part about the environmental damage wrought in the production of a car hailed as being Earth friendly. God, I love irony!

Take everything Jeremy Clarkson says with a grain of salt. He's not always correct and a lot of times makes his own conclusions.

But I would be interested in hearing more about the production of the Prius and who compared it's environmental effects to the Land Rover.

And I think he does have a point about driving style being very important to economy.

That's common sense though (everywhere but most US drivers). I managed to average 22mpg on my 740i. Mixed street/highway driving. And that's a 4 liter v8 moving a 5000lb tank off the line.

Indeed. I love him to death and think he's pants-shitting funny, but he's not always 'reliable' when it comes to investigative journalism, or even just facts & reality ;)

Sadly that article relies on numbers and facts from the CNW 'Dust to Dust' paper, which was widely regarded as bogus and unreliable. They made up a lot of numbers and, when pressed to show where they got their data from, folded and admitted they could not substantiate their numbers or many of their claims.

I was just pointing it out to the previous poster.

The fact it was in the Editorial & Opinion column of a small state university was enough for me to pass it off as anecdotal at best.

It is common sense but this is a big dick in the ass of Prius owners everywhere. And with a test to prove it.
And don't go telling me the BMW was drafting to save gas.

Wow, you mean to tell me that if you drive at WOT, you'll get bad gas mileage?

Granted the Prius had to STRAIN to do what the M3 was cruising at, but still. This is pretty entertaining to say the LEAST.
