    Olds Aurora AC Comp...

-My dad has a '98 Old Aurora (4.0 v8 ) and the A/C compressor ate it. I am 90% sure that on many Caddys with Northstars, the engine has to be removed to replace the A/C comp. Now, the v8 in the Aurora is basicly a narrow-bore Northstar... so...
...Does the engine have to be removed to replace the A/C comp on a first-gen Olds Aurora? Need to know cuz... well, I've been chosen for the task.

PS: NO FWD American car flaming, please. Its actually not a bad car.

-Yeah or about the same. Alum block, 32v, DOHC, blah blah blah. Block design is baced on the small block Chevy, iirc, so if you can swap an LS1 you can swap a Northstar.

          -So... about that compressor...

There was a guy in Eurotuner a few years back that put a 32V Northstar in a MkII Golf. It was pretty badass. Automatic, but faster than most of the stuff around here!

Spec, I posted your question on a firearms forum I belong to (30k members). I may have an answer for you pretty soon. I'll let you know.

I have heard some crazy shit about Northstar V8 work before. One example, the starter is under the intake manifold on Caddy Northstars. Engine removal is required to change them. I dont know firsthand if this is true, just what I had heard. That is some dumbass engineering IMHO. like the old V8 powered Chevy Monzas in the early 80's. The #7 and #8 spark plugs were so far up under the firewall, you had to nearly remove the engine to change them.

-I saw that, I would definatly rock it!

-OK... update... looks like I wouldn't have to pull the compressor. The clutch will kick on and turn but the compressor isn't turning over, the shaft doesn't move and the engine doesn't load up. GM sell a "clutch facing" ($151!) which should fix this. I can borrow a small puller and replace it w/o pulling the compressor!

-But I'm still curious about it...

Well, partially true. The starter IS under the intake manifold, but its a composite manifold with reusable gaskets held down with four top-accessible bolts. I'd rather do starters in those all day than one in an e30. Toyota also hid starters in there in the Land Crushers, but that was a two piece manifold with 3 million bolts holding it on.

Check out www.cadillacowners.com they have a TON of Northstar info. I'm even a mod there.

Well evidently none of my "brothers-in-arms" has an answer for me over there. One dumbass posted a link to the Autozone site. Sorry.
