BMW Museum & my Euro trip (~30+pics)

I was in Germany for 6 weeks (May 15-June 28 ) studying renewable energy systems in the old city of Trier (only 1 hr from the Ring). I spent 2 of the 6 weeks traveling through the country. The whole trip was fantastic and I had a lot of fun. I highly recommend going if anyone ever has the chance to. I visited a Porsche dealership in Zuffenhausen because the new museum is currently under construction. I also visited the Daimler Benz museum. I was lucky enough to be in Munich when the new BMW museum reopened so I went there too. I got to see the GINA concept car. I also took a tour of the BMW research and design park. They didn't allow cameras into the buildings so I don't have any pictures from inside. The highlight of my trip was when I drove the Nurburgring. It just so happened that my dad had scheduled his 135i European delivery for May 30. On the second day of his trip, he drove the 500+km to Trier. The car only had 600 miles on it when we arrived at the track, so we had to keep it below 4500 rpm. The 21 euro I spent for my lap was the best money I’ve ever spent. Now the pictures.

For serious, it seemed like forever and a day.

Great pictures, it looks like you hit up most of the car enthusiast hot spots while you were over there. My brother visited there last September and went to the Frankfurt Auto Show, the Porsche factory (and the area where the owners pick up their vehicles) in Stuttgart, the small museum that BMW had while the real one was being built, and he also visited the Nurburgring and had a lap in the Taxi. He sounded just like you when he talked about it, it sounds like an incredible place. Sadly, he was only there for five days, so it was a bit like sensory overload.

So, how was the 'Ring? Was it your first time driving it? It sounds like it is a LOT more bumpy than video games/YouTube videos lead you to believe. Tall your father that is a beautiful Sedonarot 1er he's got.

Great shots! I just got back from Deutschland myself, except it was with a school trip. Thus, no 'Ring or track driving, but it was still very cool. Being able to speak German is also a plus ;). I did manage to seak away with some friends for a day, hop on a train, and go to BMW Welt. The museum was closed when I was there, though. Cool thing is, the subway station is almost directly under BMW Welt, and the old Olympic stadium is a 5 minute walk away.

It was my first time on the ring. I also experienced sensory overload. It began when the gate opened and lasted the whole lap. What really impressed me about the track was the elevation changes. The videos & games cannot accurately replicate the steep descents and inclines like in real life. Honestly the whole track scared me and I was one of the slowest drivers out there. I cannot image taking some of the corners at speed; especially the way the BMW taxis drive. I wish I could have gotten a ride in one of them. It definitely is a track that requires a lot of laps to fully comprehend all of its characteristics.

My dad says taking European delivery of his car was a great experience; the BMW associates treat you very well and make the whole event a memorable one. It basically is a big teaser because he has to wait roughly 6 weeks until he can pick it up in the US. The dealership did contact him yesterday and said his car will be in sometime next week.
