Need help transfering video to my computer...

Alright all you technophiles, I have a new video camera and I am trying to figure out how to download the video to my computer. The manuf. was kind enough to supply a USB cable, but no instructions on what I need to do. When I connect the camera to the computer, the computer recognizes it, but it is looking for the digital pictures rather than video. Presumeably I need some software to do this. I tried using Windows Movie Maker, but it did not recognize the camera (it was just looking for an audio device). Any guidance on this? I'd like to figure out how to do this before the next auto-x this weekend.

Does the video camera have firewire? Use that - hook it up and enjoy the pain in the ass MS software. Or buy/download some editing software.

is there an iLink / firewire port on your camera ? you can connect that to the firewire port on your PC (depending if you have fw or not) . This may require you to go out and get a different type of cable.

Otherwise, the way I used to do it was with a video capture card in my PC. It would accept an RCA input for video, then i'd use an adapter to hook up the audio sources to the soundcard.

This is what the firewire ports will look like, it'll be the 4pin kind on your camera.

give me a holler if you have more specific questions about it.

Hmm...I know there is firewire port on the camera and there is one on my laptop, I just need to make sure they sent me a cable for it. Thanks, guys. That helps.

I must be getting old...I am behind the curve on some of this technology stuff. It just isn't as easy to make homemade porn anymore.

Yea, normally all DV cameras transfer the video to the PC and back again via the firewire...if you buy a firewire cable, meake sure you check the number of pins you'll need on both ends ...

There is a 4 pin connection type, and a 6 pin type....
