    2002 tranny question

ok, so i went to look at a 2002 today to maybe pick up as a lil project..the car is fuken immaculate, it looks awesome! a '73, so last of the round tails, nice plain white....gave it the once over visually, and its damn impressive....even the interior is in good nick, but that wld come out anyway....but...its a damn automatic....so i wanna know how hard an auto/manual swap is....given that any '02 i would get i would want to do a 5sp conversion on ayway, is it much more farking around to go from auto to manual?

i have also been told that the auto is actually better for the 5sp conversion anyway, cos the trans tunnel is wider.

can someome please lend me some of thei knowledge?

    cheers lads.

This is true. The auto had a much larger tunnel -- great for S14/tranny conversions. I did my 5spd from 4spd swap personally. That wasn't much diff than doing a straight up tranny swap. Adding a 5 speed isn't too much harder, just involes changing the pedal box, etc.

From what Ive heard from online, The five speed, although the auto had a larger tunnel, still requires a little pounding of the tranny tunnel to fit. the four speed gearbox is alot smaller. There used to be a really good web site that covered only a five speed conversion on a '74 2002. you can probably find it on google. The conversion ended up costing around $550 if I remember correctly. that includes the transmission and all parts.

Trent, that is what i was thinking...if everything comes out for a 5speed, the AT swap wouldnt take too much more.

Alex, thanks for that link mate, thats awesome!

thanks guys, i might make a few calls today and see what parts are around the place. thanks again.
