    HELP!! vibration from engine bay!!

don't know if this belongs here but........

so when i drive straight or turn left there is a vibration coming from the engine bay. it increases with speed, which my first guess would be the engine mounts...so i parked the car for a few days and scheduled an appointmnet for it to be looked at tommorrow morning by my local mechanic. looked around in teh bay...but im not quite sure where the mounts are located so i just let it sit.

but....the vibration stops when the car turns right. also it doesnt seem to be dependant on the engine rpms, but on the speed. could this be the engine mounts..or something more serious like as 1988 325ix suggested...the CV joints

its getting looked at today, but if any e30'ers could shed some light on what it could possibly be that'd be awesome. thanks

If the boot is gone and now your feeling a vibration I would suspect the CV joint is toastee.

First, yes, that would be your problem and second, they don't just fall off bro. It had to have been ripped before and just kept ripping.

Sorry for your loss. But honestly don't just replace the boot. Don't take the cheap route. You'll kick yourself later. If you just changed the boot, you would just be covering up the problem. Literally.

            Do it right

                Wheels and tires balanced?
                Flex disc/CSB in good condition?
                Driveshaft U-joints?
                Diff in good condition?

                  well......hahah

its the wheel bearing AND the ball joint causing the vibrations. also the boot is missing, so im having that replaced as well as the axle.

on the bright side, the POS mechanic i had rebuild my parking brake 4 months ago half assed it and the assembly fell apart and doesnt work anymore...so i have to call him up and freak out. also my P/O who claimed to have a full brake job done about 12 months ago lied, as the front brakes are close to being metal to metal.

have you had an alignment/balance recently? is it in the steering or the car?

If you have the means go ahead and replace the wheel bearing/hub and control arms on BOTH sides of the car, not just one.

Then if you really have some extra change, do your sway bar end links, tie rod ends and get an alignment.
