Quick exhaust question

Okay guys, I'm sorry that this is a complete noob question. I've searched and looked around a bit.

Will an i or is exhaust fit on an e or es?

I have an 87 325es and I need an exhaust looking to pick up an i exhaust locally.

i have an 87 eta and i have no exhaust from the cat back. I picked up an IS catback stock exhaust and found out that you would need to fabricate a Y pipe to get the I exhaust to mount up to the E exhaust. Dual Downpipe on the IS vs. the Single downpipe on the E.

You need the whole thing, it isn't easy to interchange parts from either system but if you have the whole system from the manifold to the muffler you shouldn't run into any problems.

Fab up a Y pipe.

You can make it fit.

The exhaust manifolds are the same, but everything else is different.

Going to an i exhaust should be a slight upgrade.

The I manifolds are actually a little larger (the runners themselves anyway, externally they appear to be the same)

If you check ETK, they have different part numbers, and the I manifolds cost twice as much.

Either way, an I exhaust would produce a slightly nicer noise.
