The research I did today was that rebuilds end up being just as much or more expensive then S14's. But if you can get rid of the mechanical injection system and replace it with a megasquirt then the power output would increase a lot. It's hard to wrap my mind around going to Merc. I'm just to bimmer crazy....

The Fuel Distributor is a part that often fails and is a high cost item ($1500 - $2000), as are many other parts on these cars.
I was looking into buying one and starting researching which parts fail the most often and their cost and that scared my away so I decided to buy another E30 to replace my old 1986 325es as parts are cheaper and more plentiful.

I'm familiar with them - They are great if you have LOTS of $$ (read the quote above - thats not a part that's "if" it happens, that's "when" it happens). That car at $4900 fixed, will cost more then project86's at $10,000. Compared to the E30M3, they are slower, worth less & cost more to fix - not to mention, find someone that knows what their doing when they work on one. If you just hit the lottery, DO IT, if you didn't, delete the CL ad, you'll be doing yourself a favor.
The fuel injection that came on all 190E's was pretty crappy. Switching to electronic fuel injection yields a big performance gain, and there are a few people out there who have already done this so you wouldn't be alone.
They are cheap to buy for a reason, that being that they are uber expensive to maintain. Easily along the lines of maintaining an E30 M3. You can defer the maintenance for a while, but eventually you'll pay up, big time, to keep this kind of car on the road. Great car for a back up to take out on weekends where you only put a couple thousand miles a year. But for a DD, you better really be committed to it.
For those that are committed, it is a true homologation car and pretty cool for the history it represents, but it's not holding values like an E30 M3 is.
I used to own one. I wouldn't recommend daily driving for a family of 4. They are toys that require a lot of attention and money, as previously stated.
They are no E30 M3 performancewise either...the street version of the 16v is much farther removed from its racing counterpart than the E30 M3 is.

Get, or sell it to me. I know they are not as much fun as e30's, but 190e 16v is such an awesome car to wake up to next to your e30. On top of all that, it's still a MB.
