    A few issues

Now I searched bimmerforums, r3vlimited, and e30tech, and I am yet to find a similar problem people have had with their car. I mean the symtoms are similar but....

Starting it up in the morning takes a few trys, even when it catches it dies out. There is a heavy fuel smell as well. I do get it started after reving it for a bit. Seems to run very normally after getting it started, just that the idle is at around 600. As soon as you drive the car for a while it seems fine and runs pretty well on the freeway. After a few stops and starts or so after a long drive maybe, the car will still start up (not the way it does when its cold) and it will cut out and start to die on me, its hard to start it up again, have to wait for it to cool down. Now I have replaced the following parts with brand new oem but haven't seen any results. I have replaced the Spark plugs, AFM, Idle control valve, DME, fuel pressure regulator, thermostat, coolant temp sensor, fuel pump, and the fuel filter. Now the check engine light would come on right when it would stumble before, but lately it has remained on. I have done the stomp test and it said I needed a new coolant temp sensor. After i have replaced the coolant temp sensor, it is still giving me the same code. What the hell could this possibly be? For the love of god, somebody help me.

      1. Check for fuel leaks (could be causing the system to de-pressurize overnight, causing the long start time) around the fuel filter (which you should replace anyways), by the intake manifold or on top of the tank.

      2. My best guess would be some sort of evap problem causing the rest of the issues... but i'm not sure.

Have check but no fuel leaks, and the fuel filter was replaced just yesterday.

Intake manifold gaskets? Maybe 02. Did you check the injectors? Where is the fuel smell coming from?

Well the fuel smell comes from the exhaust, unburnt fuel. Gonna probably change those gaskets and 02 soon. I don't think injectors are the problem though.

reference sensor might explain the stalling... but i dont know about the rich smell its already been said O2 sensor. Does is only smell rich on a full tank?

Mine does it, I don't know why, I don't mind.

I need to get a new fuel filter.

-a "rich" smell could be from an ignition missfire

-also, check the harness connecter(s) for the coolant temp senser, they are bundled with the injector harness. maybe a loose/corroded wire/ground?
