    blower motor/air recirculation flap

put my blower motor in tonight and accidently broke the lever that opens and closes the recirculation flap on the drivers side. What effect will this have? also should i manually move it to the closed position or the open position, i have no idea what these doors do. The mechanical flap opens and closes, just the plastic flap that is attached to the mechanical flap snapped off.

The flap changes the air flow from recirculated air (from the interior) to fresh air (from outside) If its broken, I'd leave it open, as recirculating air can cause problems in the winter with condensation, and I'm pretty sure its better for the people in the car to have fresh air than recirculated interior air.

Try to fix it.. but don't worry to much about it if it's open as Non-a/c e30s don't even have this flap.. and if they do they rarely work right.

Who said he didn't have AC? And my flapper thing works fine. I can't really tell if it does much, but when the AC is on it cools the car down much faster.

            recirc flap

hey guys, thanks for the replies. I do have A/C. So i should try to fix it? it broke where the lever attaches, i am thinking epoxy? And if i dont get around to fixing it right away, you guys suggest just leaving it left open? will the A/C work with it open?
            thanks again!

just replace the flap. a/c will work either way, the flap affects the air flow.

i cant replace it, it wont attach to the motorized flap anymore, it snapped the arm that opens and closes the outer flap.

i dont think that is it. it is the hindged rod that conects to the recirc flap that open when you press recirc which in turn opens the plastic doors that open on the outside of the housing. I will try to get a pic this weekend. It broke right at the bottom, a realy crappy place. It is not the rod that broke, its the point that it attaches to. really hard to explain, i am sorry.

the point where the rod is attached to the actuator?

You can replace the actuator motor with another or try to pry the plastic piece and replace it. Actuator is held by two screws and a 2 pin connector. The actuators control the two flaps to let the fresh air IN or recycle the cabin air.
