anything else i should get while ordering timing belt kit?

like title says, i'd love to get the super water pump kit, but for now i just want to do the timing belt to be safe and be able to drive the car for the next few months until it starts to snow. i'm getting a new timing belt and tensioner from pelican, anything else i soud get? alt, a/c, and p/s belts for sure, tensioning spring for timing belt adjusting puller assembly? guide pin for timing belt tensioner? t-stat & gasket? front engine cover gasket? i'm trying to order tonight or tomorrow so i can get this all done next weekend.any input would be much appreciated. tia!

all that said i'm really happy to finally be getting this done so the e30 can take over grocey getter status for a while.

Since you will be tearing down the front of your motor I would at least do the water pump also. Check all your hoses for cracks. And just take your time and look at every part you take off for damage.

did this whole spleal yesterday. Other than your belt, you'll want to replace the tensioner and the water pump. As stated above, the entire front of your motor wil be gone, replace everything you can while youre in there or you will be kicking yourself later when something hoes wrong. Get all the seals as well for the front of the motor. The hoses arent so much a necessity at the time of disassembly but check them just in case. You can change hoses whenever because they are easy to access. Check all your belts as well, they will be off as well so there would be no reason not to check them out and replace them if needed.

        Good question OP.

I think i know what the answer will be to this one so lay it on me.
Belt was changed about 6 years ago, around 30,000 miles have passed. Should I put this on my ASAP list or can it wait until the end of the year when i have more time? I plan to hit up two more autocrosses and she's running great, garage kept for 60% of the time. Whats the verdict?

I changed mine at 6 years/ 25,000 miles and the belt appeared to be in like new condition. It's still a gamble.

xLibelle, i'd err on the side of caution, especailly if you 'cross your car. a $30 belt change beats the hell out of a fucked up valvetrain any day of the week. i did the timing belt on my S4 about 30k early just to be safe, and i'm glad i did, it was dry rotted as fuck. saved 6-8k in repairs that would have been inevitable had i waited another 10k...

to the rest of you thanks so much for your input. r3v can be an unforgiving place, but it's times like this that i see why i come back time and again; helpful people that are passionate about an enigmatic car.

so, e30 fiend, what seals are you speaking of specifically? are any known to go? i have 2 other cars so if it all comes apart and i want to get more parts i can and just let the car sit, i'd just rather get it all done at once. i really, really want to ge the e30 on dd duty this month. can't wait to get inimate with the virtues of this car. thanks all!

Change it dude its a days work in the driveway if your slow, two to three hours with the right tools. Like stated above a $30 timing belt assembly is way better than buying a new head or pistons altough I do have a spare block I can sell you parts off... You know what just let it snap.:D
