I love how they show their footwork at the perfect times, so you could see that one time where he shifted up, and then that other time, where he like, shifted up.

          That's a RACE TRACK.

And you keep bringing up this point of "exiting a corner quicker". Drifting out of a corner is not a faster way to exit it.

Seriously though, nowhere in drifting does it say that time is related. For that matter, not even all drifters are into the competition. A lot of people just do it because they get a kick out of going sideways.

I suggest you go out to a drift event... even if not participating, go for a ride with someone. Then decide. If you still don't like it: Hey, it's not for everyone. But a lot of people just put drifting down without even trying to understand where we are coming from.

You're missing the point entirely. You're trying to find some sort of technical (perhaps mathematical) explanation as to why someone would do such a thing. Drifting, as a motorsport recognized today, is not about timing or being the fastest.

The reason why I suggest going for a ride is because that's something no YouTube video can show you. The reason why you should go out is because you might just realize that it's "fun", and fun is enough to keep going at it.

Some people just go to the junker every month or two, pick up a pair of used tires to roast for cheap, and others choose it to take it a few steps further, where they make it their biggest hobby.

All I'm saying is, when you drift into a corner (not talking about hardcore vertical sticker drifiting, just carrying the back end out a bit,) you carry more speed into the corner. Thus, you exit the corner faster. When done correctly, it can be quicker than braking before the corner.
You know he's not gaining "speed" by doing that right? Any sliding past the apex of a corner is just a loss of acceleration and consequently, your lap time.

E30s are more fun to slide than S13s ;)

I already have 4-5 240sx owners locally who sold their cars for e30s. :p
