Another E30 Down, Need help with how to deal with insurance

Well my beloved E30 was backed into today in my school parking lot(imagine that). I had to sit and watch it happen. At least he admitted it was his fault. It was backed into right behind the passenger door (2dr) by a truck with a trailer hitch. The guy was a older teacher at the school and said he would talk to my dad and just have his insurance company pay for it. I have a feeling the car is going to end up getting totaled. The car is an 86' 2dr 325, yes I know its an eta but the car is in mint condition. The car has been babied all its life. Heres some pics of the damage, sorry for the shitty camera phone pics

Unfortunate. Like you said, hopefully your insurance company will total it, was there any suspension damage? That may help your case monumentally.

If that fails, take that instructor's course and make him pass you. :D

had the same thing happen. It was going to cost $500 to repair. Get qoutes and see if you can work something out with the instructor. His deductable might be more then the repair.

No suspension damage, and this is no 500 dollar job. 1000 atleast, Im going tommorrow to get a few quotes from some area shops, but the work will be done by myself and my uncle at his shop where it will be done correctly, I have an extremely hard time trusting anybody else with my car.

I got the car for christmas, last year, but it sat in the driveway until late march due to weather and what-not. I've only put about 5,000 miles on it.

umm...alright well it was a $500 job for me and this wasn't at macco, I don't see a big difference between what mine looks like and what yours looks like so it can be done, ask around. But you and your uncle are doing it so it should be slightly cheaper.

got 3 estimates today all between 1400-1600. I got on kelly blue which doesnt even go back to 86' , and looked up an 88' 2 door with similar mileage and it retailed for 1,750 in excellent condition. So it looks like I'll be on the look out for a replacement....

No, if the car does end up getting totaled I'm just going to buy it back from the insurance company, use what money i do end up with, and buy another e30, more than likely a plastic bumpered car and hopefully swapped, who knows.

Make sure you NEVER take the first or even second offer and insurance company gives you. They're taught to low ball you hard.

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.
