    Thanks for all the advice.

Pound for pound are the bilsteins touring the best overall value. SHould I consider boge turbo gas or KYB.

My gut tells me that the bisteins at just over 200 bucks cant be beat.

    Thanks again.

my bimmer is a good little car that unlike my old benzos does not leak all over my concreat driveway.

    thanks again

      Pound for pound . . . well . . .
$219 for the Bilteins vs. $279 for the Boge from Shox.com does make the Bils seem more attractive, but Boge can be had for $219 or less from other web vendors like BMA. So cost is roughly equal.
      Both have a lifetime warranty.

However, the Bils Touring have only been out for a few years; nobody really knows how well they last. Sure, the $50 shock is guarantied, but you'll have to install it or pay someone $60+ each to do so.(Rears are easy, but fronts are not, and fronts get all the wear + tear.)

"They feature the same German engineering and quality as the world famous Bilstein Monotube Gas Pressure Shock . . ." My sources tell me that the Touring is made in Romania. Not to knock the Romanians, but it seems like Bilstein likes to tout their German heritage and sell you something made somewhere else. Sure, some BMW's are now made in South Carolina. I'm not saying that the Touring is no good becasue it isn't made in Germany; I just have the impression that it is an accounting / marketing dept. special, and qualty / longevity is unknown at this point.

As for performance, I dunno. You'd have to try a car with new Bils Touring vs. new Boge Turbo. You might get the same improvement by replacing the old worn out Boge with new Boge as you would with new Bils Touring.

As you know, German cars of this era are not the kind of cars that require no maintenance for 100k.
Oil pan gasket, steering rack, rear trans seals.
        Give it time . . . :D
