    sr20det

does anyone know much about sr20det's? how reliable of a motor are they, and how much boost can they handle with stock internals, injectors, ect? ive been toying with the notion of trying to put one into an earlier nissan sentra. how about just a normal non turbo sr20, how much power can be acheived from one of these?

This is a question for a Nissan board or Toyota board, who ever makes this engine....

Maybe all around enthusiast but how much experance do other shave besides reading when the average age here is 22.

Now when I saw experance I mean have you owned one for more than 2 years... Gives you time to see patterns of break downs and what not with a car.

I haven't worked with them, but sr20's are known to be reliable, and can boost pretty well on stock internals.

As for swapping one into an early sentra though, I can tell you it won't be too easy. I wanted to put a sr20 into my 88 sentra (my ricemobile) but the lack of any aftermarket (who the hell wants to mod a sentra) makes anything you do pretty custom.

Take a couple of years off that.

Anyways, you will get the most info on sr20s on an sr20 forum, as I'm sure there are some out there. Just look it up.

the sr20de which came in the sentra se-r's is actually a pretty nice motor. dohc, i believe 140hp or 160hp.

the sr20det is hott though. the redtop can push 300hp no problem with a few mods, and can run high hp on stock internals

i'd recommend the red top. black top is suppsed to be a bit more power, but only because of a different turbo. blacktop also comes with a 6 speed, but actually the gear ratios of the 5 speed are supposed to be preferred

not that it matters, you'd have to use an sr20de tranny anyway since your car is fwd. i think some came with lsd, not sure though you'd have to look into that

a friend of mine just installed a turbo in his SR20 US version here, he told me is totally stock and the engine can handle 9 PSI max , current boosting it and runs very good, with stock injectors and MSD reatrd box, with out IC. Pings a bit.

he told me that the engine can support max 9 PSI from what he heared in the nissan forums.

the sr20 is a great motor. very reilable, and fast out of the box. my freind just converted a 91 coupe into a s13 silvia, oh my its fast. it ran 13.0 with only a few mods.
