Eric and I started working on my car today, first time really since the wreck 3mos. ago.
The coolant elbow on the back of head was cracked and the oilpan was also cracked, both occurred as a direct result of multiple impacts in the accident (I was hit from behind). Of course as a result there was a loss of coolant as well as oil that rendered the car inoperable. So we started with those items first.
With some perseverance and a whole lotta elbow grease the coolant elbow was removed and replaced with one from the Eric's spare M20 (thank God for friends with spare motors/parts!). Ha, all we did with the oil pan was sand it, and clean it, and put something akin to JB Weld on it. Hope that holds together for awhile.
Well all this work called for a good cleaning and so we washed it. Then decided to drill the airbox full of holes. Man what a difference in the sound! Wow! (Funny aside, Eric put me out on the side of the road so that I could hear the difference as he drove by, and this crackhead came out of his trailer, on his honda atv, with a .357 magnum and started trouble with me. Of course I did not back down, but what an idiot, pulling a gun on me. Told me not to be "draggin" down his road. You really had to be there to appreciate the humor in it)
So anyway, after about three months of sitting idle, the car ran beautifully. Smooth as you please. Started right up and ran like a champ. No big issues.
The bad news is 3mos. semi-covered, allowed water to somehow collect inside the car, ruining the carpet. The good news is that I wanted to replace the floor mats and carpet eventually anyway, so now I have a damn good excuse to do it.
I hope to get it to a body shop soon so we can get started on that area. :D
