Started rebuild today/ 1st drive since wreck!

Eric and I started working on my car today, first time really since the wreck 3mos. ago.
The coolant elbow on the back of head was cracked and the oilpan was also cracked, both occurred as a direct result of multiple impacts in the accident (I was hit from behind). Of course as a result there was a loss of coolant as well as oil that rendered the car inoperable. So we started with those items first.

With some perseverance and a whole lotta elbow grease the coolant elbow was removed and replaced with one from the Eric's spare M20 (thank God for friends with spare motors/parts!). Ha, all we did with the oil pan was sand it, and clean it, and put something akin to JB Weld on it. Hope that holds together for awhile.

Well all this work called for a good cleaning and so we washed it. Then decided to drill the airbox full of holes. Man what a difference in the sound! Wow! (Funny aside, Eric put me out on the side of the road so that I could hear the difference as he drove by, and this crackhead came out of his trailer, on his honda atv, with a .357 magnum and started trouble with me. Of course I did not back down, but what an idiot, pulling a gun on me. Told me not to be "draggin" down his road. You really had to be there to appreciate the humor in it)

So anyway, after about three months of sitting idle, the car ran beautifully. Smooth as you please. Started right up and ran like a champ. No big issues.

The bad news is 3mos. semi-covered, allowed water to somehow collect inside the car, ruining the carpet. The good news is that I wanted to replace the floor mats and carpet eventually anyway, so now I have a damn good excuse to do it.

I hope to get it to a body shop soon so we can get started on that area. :D

Nice to hear, the machine is on it's way back. As mint as your car is, this must hurt...I can just imagine someone pointing a gun @ me telling me to stop draggin my bimmer down his path...I can see that happening here in GA. That's the reason why I stick to industrial lots :D

Anywhoo, any mods planned as you get the body taken care of? Smoked tails? Euro plate filler?

      As a matter of fact.....
I am going to add the M-Tech 2 body kit as supplied by my good friend Eric. I am still trying to come up with a good body shop locally to work with me on this project. I want to help with labor as much as possible. I really want to respray the entire car. There are many small/minor dents, dings, rock chips, etc. that don't show in pictures and sometimes are even hard to see in person. I really want to get all of them fixed and do a quality repaint. As for the tails, I won't pay $250 for the MHW or whatever they are, but I will at some point tint them or go with all reds. And with the M-Tech 2 kit, I just may get the filler plate too. I think that would look smooth. Of course there are still suspension mods to do. I want new shock/spring setup and a few other minors. I would love to change out the exhaust as well, but some things will HAVE to wait.

Then there is the motor rebuild. As I said before, Eric has a spare M20 that we are considering doing a stroker conversion on. Rebuild it with all the goodies. Would have to be a longer term project. I am going to nursing school, R.N. in the spring. Money will be tight. So. Will have to take all this a bit at a time. Of course there is still the issue of the lawsuit that will be filed this coming week against the trucking co. responsible for the damage to my car. So there is still that. But, it feels good to get it running again. Took it for another spin just a few minutes ago, and couldn't stop grinning. I love my car.

It will be better than what it was, it will just take a while to accomplish. Kinda like Jordan's schedule, only not quite the same kind of rebuild and hopefully not quite as long. Anyway, I will be posting more as the project plays out.
