Made a thread in OT to help try and gather someone up...

I started it once, for about 5 seconds. There's still a bit of oil in the engine, so I didn't fry anything too bad.Leave a comment:

Oh man! That sucks hardcore! I hope you get your problems fixed fast. Maybe Devon will see this and help you out, but I don't know how far he is from you.
Good luck getting it taken care of! Did you start it with no oil in the car?
And as for Albuquerque, it was okay, but I just had a bad experience there and Santa Fe was much more interesting is all.Leave a comment:

If a mod can change the thread title to what i have it as in the first post, I'd greatly appreciate it.Leave a comment:

FUCK FUCK FUCK ASS SHIT DOGS
We apparently busted the oil pan sometime yesterday. Probably as we pulled into the hotel parking lot. Motherdicks. Woke up to a huge puddle of oil under the car, looks like it's coming from the front of the pan. Haven't gotten under it yet. Going to call AAA and get it towed to a shop, lifted up. If it's a crack and not a huge fuckhole, I can probably JB weld it up and make it to CA.
I need an oil pan ASAP.
If anyone's in Arizona near 40, your help/advice would be welcome as well. This is my first oil pan, and the car isn't even that fucking low.
Fucked by Arizona,

Very cool you are doing this, I think it is something everyone should experience at least once. I just got back from a 5000 mile round trip on Thursday. I only saw two of those giant crosses, but one of them was the largest in the western hemisphere:). I also saw all of the Jesus signs in Missouri, I thought that their proximity to all of the adult superstores was an interesting juxtaposition.Leave a comment:

Oh, if any of you folks would like to make me a sig, I will hump your leg as a sign of thanks.

Allright. We're in Holbrook, Arizona, and ... it's terrible. Don't go to Holbrook, Arizona. Saying that this place reeks of fart would be an insult to the good name of fart. Basically, it smells like 30,000 geriatric people all got massive runs. At. The. Same. Time.
Every time I go from one room to another, the fart smell changes. It's like there's flavors of fart that are constantly being pumped into our hotel room. Oh, our hotel room? It's like in those 5 or 6 movies where the dude lives in a shitty apartment under a train track. Except with fart gas instead of air.
Hold me :(
Anyway, pics. Starting from yesterday, because I didn't get a chance to upload them. Oh wait, yesterday wasn't interesting, because it looked like this at 90% of the time.

The other 10% was at this truck stop/native american novelty thing. It was pretty cool, and the view across the Oklahoma farmland was pretty awesome.

Anyway, on to today! We started out in Tucumcari, NM, and went to Old Town Albuquerque for lunch. Then, we hit 25 South and took our first pit stop in Socorro. We headed west along route 60, which is a freakin' gorgeous road, to take a look at the largest radio telescope array in the U.S., appropriately called the Very Large Array.
Before we got to the actual telescope, we got into a little... fight with the dirt road we thought was the entrance. Yes, we managed to find the ONLY mud puddle in New Mexico. The trail we left, after we unloaded the car and pushed it out:

Aftermath. There was dirt on the roof of the car.

Then, I had to get the car back across the puddle. There's a video of this on our camcorder. It was messy.
After finding the *right* road, we got to walk around the VLA.

As we left, I took a couple pics of the car, for great justice. This was also where I discovered that everything looks cooler in widescreen.

Then, we got back in, and hit route 60 to Arizona. It was such a beautiful drive that I forgot to take photos :( Seriously, it was amazing, and if you're even in the area, don't just sit on 40 like a douche. Go to Socorro, check out the VLA, and hit up Route 60.
In Arizona, as the sun was setting, I was able to capture this unique lighting situation:

We did not get to see much of Arizona, as it had gotten dark. So, we blasted some music, and booked it down empty county roads. At some point we took a side road to park and look at stars, and found ourselves on the edge of a huge lake.
And now, we're in Holefart, smellin' farts, getting vibrated by trains. Tomorrow, it's the Grand Canyon and Vegas.Leave a comment:

Also didn't get to chill with z31maniac, because job meetings > people from New Jersey :(
It's all cool, though. No cop incidents yet, either, although a Texas trooper did follow us for a bit.
Cool bits of info:
The speed limit on 40 in Texas is different during the day and at night. I have no idea how'd they enforce 'day' and 'night'.
The speed limit on 40 in NM is 75. It was awesome :D
My speedometer over-reads by 5mph.
Texas has airborne cow-shit nukes. Seriously, roll up your windows and turn on air recirculation. You'll thank me later.Leave a comment:

We stepped on it today. We started in Missouri, had lunch in Oklahoma, had dinner in Texas, and now we're in New Mexico. Got a couple cool places to visit tomorrow, so we need all the time we can get.
Western Oklahoma and that part of Texas that sticks up there are absolutely beautiful. I mean... they're pretty flat and _should_ be completely boring, but the emptiness and open-ness of the land is striking in its own way.
Unfortunately, wireless sucks here, so I have to go to the hotel lobby to get any sort of interwebs. Thus, photos will have to wait until tomorrow.
Car's doing fine. It idles a bit low now (higher altitude), but it's manageable. Fuel economy kind of sucked today since the warm and humid air in Oklahoma forced us to turn on the A/C.
I'll check in tomorrow, maybe with photos.
m42technik - Santa Fe is northeast of Alb. I had a good time in Alb last time I was there, so I don't understand why you think it's lame. Care to 'splain?Leave a comment:
