    Power sunroof

Just finished converting to a power sunroof - what fun that was. It's not a hard job....just a PITA....

Anyway - it's pretty cool...did have trouble though - wired up to the switched lead on for the radio - if the radio is on - with the xm on - and you hit the switch it fries the 7.5a fuse.

Will have to find someplace else to wire it up eventually....

hehe, i just did that too, it SUCKED!! btw... you dont need to wire it to anything, there is a plug for it behind the knee bolster, just plug and play, i did not wiring. but the install is really tedious, like the worst thing i've done so far, but it was definately worth it :)

i bought most things needed for a power sunroof, but I'm not sure if I want to put it in

the crank sunroof will always work, ya know? I don't have to worry about it

plus, if I ever get a carbon fiber sunroof, I'd assume it would be easier to operate with the crank.

long and tedious is the truth - at one point I had the whole roof out - thought it was like a 2 hour job - turned out to be a 4-5 hour job - and a trip to walmart to buy new fuses for the ones I broke.

My kit must have had the power cut out - cuz it was a bare wire....anyway - it's all set now.....

it is worth it in my mind - dunno - just didn't like cranking that thing....

yea, I agree, cranking sucked. why did you take the roof out? definately didnt need to do that. you just have to cut out the triangle on the copper plate and attach the 2 side screws, drill and self tapping screw the middle hole, and all the little allignment junk.

it would have been easy If I had known what to do instead of having to figure it out as I go. But worth it none the less :)

yep - definitely easier to have modified the old plate - I switched it out to one built for the motor - big time pain - but it's done now

I think I would rather have the crank one as well.

My power roof always got stuck.

here's a good write up, you have to get a little "custom" but this helped a lot.

I have a crank in the jetta, and like it 10x more than the slow ass power E30 one.

+One of my ladie friend thinks its amazing, lol.

                          I bombed Korea every night.

actually the crank mechanism weighs about the same as the motor. (ask me how I know)

and while the crank was more "reliable" i never actually slid my sunroof open because it was a pain in the ass, i only tiltedc it, now I actually use my sunroof to it's full potential

Every girl who's seen it in my car loves it. Can't complain about that. And it probably won't bust easily as power ones either.... 8)
