Ask them if they would trust a 14 year old airbag.Originally posted by robbieosterman... everything has been connected tight ... parents want to keep the airbag, they see it as a safety feature ... ?Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

then remove teh light, it is seriously not worth it to troubleshoot that crappy SRS system.
unplug all teh wires, reseat them. That may bring it back. but seriously e30 airbags are horrible, tell them that, the damn car was never even designed for an airbag, its so thrown in there its awful

The system is about as intelligent as Motronic, which is not saying much.
Its either on or off, its a first gen siemens system, so if it detects an electrical fault it will throw a fit and shut down.
its not as easy as the new ones

Tell them the 14yr old phosphorus (or whatever they used) will burn your face and lungs in an accident. Get an M-tech 1 wheel. I just bought one, hope to see it sometime next week. When I do get it, I'm ripping out ALL the SRS system.

Check the connectors, you could also try a hard resetOriginally posted by robbieosterman... ugg. So, since it's throwing a fit ... how can I calm it down?
under the knee bolster above the ABS computer is a bright ass neon orange box that says Siemens on it, next to it should be 3 connectors that are also orange.
With the battery disconnected unplug these connectors, then wait 20 min, reconnect these harness's and reconnect the battery.
Try that, if its a damaged sensor or something else then just fuck it, hell dude just remove the light and call it a day

Now ask YOURSELF if you trust a 14 year old airbag. :)Originally posted by robbieosterman... a little off topic here. But, don't you think that in the event of a serious crash the airbag would help ... ?Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

Yes, a 2nd Gen Airbag, airbags 1997 and older are first gen, which is basically a goddamn bomb that says SRS on it.
First gens have this basic way of operating
Car Running........Car in Accident......Deploy AIrbag, end of story, if your not there, it does not care, if your ontop of the wheel, it don't care, it just deploys
in the early 90's they added seatbelt detection, as well as a passenger detection device for passenger airbags.
after 1997 they added weight, seatbelt, system check, height, and diag support to the airbag system,
This allowed it to check weight, your seatbelt, car speed, etc before deploying the airbag itself, which was redesigned and not as bad as the first gen.
the NEW ones can even scan height, I have read about I think ford testing this

Haha, i'd rather have my chances with a giant ... 'pillow' burning my face and lungs and surviving a crash ...
Ask Randomtask, as Josh, who else has been in severe accidents and lived to tell the tale without an airbag.
the airbag system in the e30 is HORRIBLE configured and added to a car that needed it just for US law.
How does it make you feel that BMW basically tossed a bomb with sensors in your car and bolted it onto your steering wheel with probably less then a year of R&D?

Alright. I havn't gotten anything accomplished. I unplugged all three of the connecters. I found that one was the wire to the display, one was the wire to the detonator, and one was the power and sensors to the unit. I tried prying open the little metal doors on the side of it with no success... what now?Comment
