    BMW importing

I want to get a wagon one day and I was wonderign if anyone knew what all is involved?

search, it's been covered. You'll basically spend about $15k or so to Federalize the car. I'd wait until it's 25 years old... then you can ship it right in.

1987 was the first production year, I believe.

Newer the car, higher the cost of federalization. My car is currently 21yrs old and I was quoted at $3500 if I were to import it next year.

Wagons can be imported Illegally thru Canada under their 15 year rule. Then be brought into the US thru a state that has a no title reqirement after ten years but, I don't advocate that. And if you get caught well you pay the consequeses.

After the 20 safety 25 emmission rule there is now federalization required.

A friend of mine import's e30's and porche's regularly into Montreal, Canada. It's cheap and easy if you know the right people.

yah i've seen quite few tourings for sale in Vancouver. It's probably a lot easier to just import a car that's already in Canada.

M-technik-3, what makes importing the wagons illegal? I believe as long as the car is 15 years or older, and passes vehicle inspection, it is alright to import into Canada?

I was talking about importing a touring from Canada. If you just drive it across the border witout federalizing it is illegal. I didn't say anything about importing it to Canada was. They have a very liberal 15 year program which is nice.
