    Key - need a picture

Hi, so I am bringing a key cut to my vin by the dealer (PART NUMBER 51 21 1 90 875) and then taking 4 lock cylinders to a lock smith to get them keyed to match the key .

In the past I've ordered a bmw blank from ebay, and then also from a local dealer and the locksmith would not cut it as he said it's not for e30 etc... so I figured this time I'll order a cut key from the dealer and he'll just need to re-key the locks.

Here is the one I've ordered from ebay and he wouldn't cut it - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-O...4675QQtcZphoto

Could someone with a 100% oem / original key set post a picture of your key here, so I can print and take with me to the lock smith to make sure he won't say it's not an e30 key again and will want to make me another key on his own blank?

    thanks.

if the key you got looks exactly like that one in the ebay auction, than u do have the wrong key. that key is the key for newer bmws, like an e34 or something.

    e30 keyblanks look like

    or

this is the one that auction has pictured which is the wrong key for e30s

I cut my own keys too haha

blueapplesoda - thank you. the key I got from the dealer looks a little smaller in length. looks like the one you got .

kamotors - I am not talking about ilco or other generic keys, oem ones only. I got extra lock cylinders that I want re-keyed to get away from the cheap blank keys.

E30 keys are skinny like house keys, while newer ones are twice as thick.

But did later models come with the newer style key? I heard it but I've never seen it. Because I always wanted to change out all my lock cylinders and ignition to match my other car. Dumb thing to waste time and money on but it would be nice to have 1 key work for all the cars.

I did that with my van and my pickup truck. Both are GMC and it makes things very convenient.

So, ignition lock cylinder can't be re-keyed...... going to order a new lock cylinder from the stealer.

Hey Jean I'm not sure if this is any help. But I order a oem key with light for my e30 non cut, since I have a family friend who's doing it for me. Anyways the part number is 51211900894. Was like $20.
