    Part 2 of my Sunday

Well, after meeting up with the owner of one of Dale Earnhart's cars ( http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10878 ), I got my bottlecaps filled with air up to 28psi and drove down to Hialeah Speedway for the drift session they were holding there.

The cost was $30 bucks and you get unlimited runs, from 11am to 7pm. Open diff and body roll aside, it was awsome. Haven't had this much fun in a while.

I spun out a couple of times, but it's all in good fun. You learn a lot from it and after a while you can even get used to the counter-steering problem from the open differential. I was also scared of that sidewall though so I wouldn't push it on the the oval's turn....

1/2 of the people there were first-timers as well.... so that was pretty good for me. However that turbo e34 was SICK! A true drifting beast.

    Here are some pics:

Once I drop mine, I'm going on a crap load of AutoXs. That last pic is the coolest thing I have ever seen. ;)

Sounds like you had a wicked time.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

And instructors as well. The guys from TerTech with the turbo 5 have been in the drifting business a good while. I got a couple of them that volunteered to ride shotgun for a couple of runs and helped me out with some instructions.

Out of god knows how many runs, I only ran by myself once.

Funniest part was when e30 gangsta rode shotgun in my car using my PA speaker imitating a japanese drifting announcer. Half of the crowd fell on the floor laughing their asses off

28psi seems really low if you're trying to drift.

You run less pressure in the rear tires to loose traction easier.

That sounds like the worst idea ever... you're putting more surface area to the pavement giving more grip.

Ok, so tell me why they put MORE pressure in tires during autocrosses. I thought the purpose of autocross is to have the most traction possible? ;)

I was under the impression that you raise tire pressure during auto-x so that the tire didn't roll over onto the sidewall.
                      I could be wrong.

I dunno either.... I was hoping he could answer that question :P

However I do know I lose a lot of traction with less tire pressure. I can't give anyone textbook answers on what exatcly happens as you add/reduce more pressure though.

More pressure is better for auto-x because you don't rollover on the side of the tire, but you increase the pressure front and rear therefor having no real effect on the handling of the car. Then Eric is right, to dial in oversteer you decrease the rear pressure somewhat.
