    m30 v sro20det

    hi
i was wondering in reliabitly would the m30 be better then the sr20det
and you guys were saying that the m30 can make 400+hp or something so would it also match up agaisnt the sr20det for power. so for the bmw purests it would be a better option
and you would get the 3rd generation model wouldnt you not the 1st or 2nd
and would the m30 fit in a 318i 1991 model?

oh and what about the m50 v m30?
    thanks guys

I have a friend that has a 420 hp sr20 that runs great. He loves it. It was a pain to get tuned tho. His is very reliable also.

what is a sr20det? make/model/year that motor came in?

I'm doing a m30 swap into my e30 soon...It's not to bad - about the same amount of work as a m50/s50 - maby a bit more.

Its the stock motor for the B13 chassis (the Silvia in Japan). I've got a friend doing a DET swap into a '93 Nissan Sentra. The ratings are 202 hp and 205 tq if I recall correctly.

yeah, there is some company that makes a pre-fabbed kit for the sr20DET in the e30.

How much power WILL you make (not hopefully, pick a number and stick with it).

M30 has more torque, both can boost high... going past 400 hp i would take the m30, everyone says they are bulletproof.

spoon is right. there is a shop in FLA (I think its there) that charges $6-8K turn key for a sr20 in an e30, not too bad for the power output

so you spend 6-8k to get a 205 hp motor more if you get a s15 blacktop to make 250hp (add another 3k)

i dont really see how this is worth it...

cuse you dont see the light. your getting a car with boost, and a motor thats built for lots of boost, where all you ahve to do is crank up the boost, for far less then any crapy do it yourself s50 swaped e30 would cost.

As for motor cost, I've seen entire front clips for sale for $3000-4000 (not talking ebay here, I'm talking actual clip sellers). For another $1000-2000, you can put that at over 300WHP. The parts are easy to come by. It's a very reliable and strong motor. It's also a rather light motor (compared to ANY of the BMW inline six motors).

This is by far one of the best non-BMW motors or an e30 transplant.
