    Yellow ellipsoids illegal?

So I have been told that yellow ellipsoids (and yellow lights in general) are illegal. That doesn't seem to be right, but I was wondering if maybe they actually are, in Massachusetts at least.

    Not in NC.

Seems like yellow lights would be nice to have in Mass. The yellow lights put out less light, so it doesnt glare as badly as standard white in the snow.. I use mine in the fog a lot and prefer them for that reason..

I now up in Canada(well Saskatchewan atleast) they are. I get pulled over multiple times becasue I have them. But I usually get out of the ticket becasue the law states "all headlight bulbs must emit a white light", and mine do, so I usually just get the warning.

Thanks for the replies, I checked the massachusetts RMV website but couldn't find anything regarding the laws here. Hopefully someone from mass knows.

they are illegal in every state... yellow "french" lights were never DOT approved.

Bummer. It seems like they are fairly popular however, so how do people get away with running them?

Same way we get away with running Euro grilles, bumpers, trim, etc.-- Either: 1. Most cops arent familiar with in-depth DOT regulations for 20+ year old cars; or 2. They dont care.

                  I'm thinking it's mostly just 2.

I had no idea most of that stuff was illegal, though now I'm curious as to why. Guess I'm kind of a noob.

Because libs like to make everything illegal. Pretty soon your car will be illegal since its not "green".

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

Yellow headlights are illegal (in California for sure).

They are also now illegal in France (their country of origin).

i don't seem to have to many problems out here w/ my yellow fogs b/c the cops are usually going for all the hondas and don't give my e30 a second look.

didn't a few cars come with yellow fogs back in the 80's (memory fails, but I know they were everywhere back then)?
