    Purchasing car with broken odomter

Hey guys, I am new to this forum, and looking into buying aE30.

I found one for quite a deal. The car is mechanically sound, makes often 4 hour commutes (seller is making one to sell me the car) and the paint is in great shape, however the odometer is broken.

It is a 1991 car, and after running a car fax report I see 151,400 miles in 2001 when the car was sold at a dealer auction. Im guessing its in the 250k range now.

Is it too dangerous to be purchasing vehicles with broken odometers ? I see it all too often that E30's for sale all have broken odometers.

Any advice or help wouldbe great.

Broken odometers are normal. All it needs to to just replace the gear. If you want, take it to a mechanics shop and have them look it over.
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

e30 odos break like crazy (mine doesn't work)

have the car checked out very well, get compression and leakdown tests, and hound the owner for details on maintainece (exp timing belt/tune-up bits/chassis parts). If it's well taked care of, don't be scared of miles.

hes comin down and staying in a hotel, maybe ill set up an appointment for tmr morning at a mechanic to get all these tests done. I think that would prob be the safest bet.

yeah teh price is very enticing. He also clais he has OEM E30 M3 front and rear bumper. I got him to throw them in for 200$ more. Im sure they are valued at alot more. If I don't end up putting thm on this car I prob list them up here.

If he does, it doesn't fit anyway, m3s have wider fenders.

exactly right. I think when you start talking about 20 year old cars, the mechanical condition of the car is what is important and mileage may not necessarily tell that anymore.

He has an 88 m3, I'm guessing he has some experience with cars.

Didn't realize I've never posted to this site before. My bad. Anyway...here's number 2. My point to the op though is not to pass on an older car b/c of high mileage depending on what he wants the car for and of course the condition. An e30 is a wonderful thing.
