Trunk water leak (not the usual places)

I've concluded that our trunks love water. :( I've had and cured (mostly) water entry from all the common spots...trunk seal, tail light seal, antenna seal but now I have water coming in from an unusual area and I have no idea where it originates. I'll let the pictures do the talking...

After a heavy rainstorm, I see water droplets on the right side liner (in the circle) and a puddle below next to the battery cable:

The only way water can land here is via a leak from up top:

Behind the hinge there is plate with a couple of holes. The hole with the arrow pointing to it is the one that is wet to the touch so I can only assume that the water comes from here:

I have no idea where to start looking. Has anyone ever had water entry through this area? TIA.

Rear window would be the only thing I could think of, dunno why it would just start leaking though. Maybe pull the rear shelf behind the back seat and have a look.

dont know if this helps but i have my lock strip removed and yesterday it poured and that is exactly where the water entered my trunk. Maybe the lockstrip on your car is no good and its not pressing the gasket tight enough?
