Im getting ready to go to UNCC in 2 days for mechanical engineering. The only thing i'm freaked out about is my calculus classes :( Im gonna try and stay sober my first semester. I dont do well at all when I party. I found that out fast in high school.

Midway thru sophomore year things just "clicked" and I've been holding a pretty solid (mid 3.0) GPA.

Engineering doesn't necessarily get easier as you go along... you just get used to it :). Frankly it isn't that bad.

My engineering school was ridiculously hard on grading. I did pretty well until I got into the upper levels and then it was pretty much a 'C' in every class. Of 60 or so engineers I graduated with, 6 had a 3.5 or higher...none of them were M.E.'s.

Damn. The craziest thing now is that fact that before coming up, $10 cash didn't seem like anything. But now it actually matters.

Why did I spend so much on things?

Man, I wish I went to college this year and didn't take over our business instead. It sounds like so much fun damn it!

                    IIRC, you're an engineering major?

First semester, especially in engineering, is a tough semester. Its a culture shock compared to high school, and there's a lot of things to distract you at college.

Try to keep an open mind, prioritize your time, and develop NEW study skills. No matter how good of a student you were in high school, college is a whole different game, and requires a different approach. Study hard, and when you get done, get out and party/relax/whatever.

My GPA my first semester at school was horrible (let's just say, <3.0). yeah, i remember the talk we had earlier, your point of view was helpful, and enjoy the words of advice

but it is a plus both my roommates are engineering, as well as many of my friends.
Having roommates that are engumneers helps... as you get into courses, you'll find some people do better at certain subjects than others, so its always helpful to have someone to turn to if you're stuck on a homework problem.

My main point was, don't worry if you're first semester doesn't turn out so hot... some of the people at the top of my class NOW, had a big adjustment period their first semester.
