Yes; you'll need a y-pipe. Check out summitracing.com or your local muffler shop.

Are you just going to replace the muffler, or the entire catalytic converter section also?

yes it is very possable, but way easier to replace the entire manifold-back settup

but don't expect any performance gains

Your engine might liven up a bit with an "i" intake manifold and throttle body, too. Or so i've heard.

I feel ya. ;). I want mine quieter as well. I've got stock headers-high-flow magnaflow cat-resonator-magnaflow. It sounds pretty good, but it is really loud. I really don't know what to do about it...

I have full i exhaust on my e. I don't know if it's improved it at all (I got it that way), but it sounds pretty good.

Another cheap alternative might be to just ask an exhaust shop for the quietest muffler they have, problem is you're taking their word for it.

You could also get an ansa muffler for $250 from bavauto, they aren't very loud, and with the cost of a stock cat, will probably cost you less than a full i exhaust.

a full i exhaust should be less than 200 or somthing.

Any muffler shop can put a resonator in your system, downstream of cat, upstream of muffla. That should take the bite out of the exhaust for less money than a stock i exhaust.
