93 Octane

do you guys get better gas mileage with higher octane ? I figure I would but don't really have the patience to test that kind of thing.

My M42 says to use premium only. It runs fine on 89, but I get better mileage with 91, and much better mileage with 94.

ok, so what's the SAFE answer. If this happens again, do I park my car or can I SAFELY run lower octane with my Mark D chip and my setup???

Feel free to put crap gas in it a drive all you want, just don't jump on the thing when you are running garbage gas. The thing about inaudible pinging is correct, you don't have to hear it to have damage occur. If you keep high load off you motor ( by driving like a grandmother ) nothing will happen.
