    MOPAR Fans

Fans of the classic B-Body Dodge Charger from the late '60s and early '70s have long been disappointed that Chrysler released the modern Charger as a four-door sedan. Despite being a sales success, there is still a faction of die-hard MOPAR fans who believe it was a mistake to put the Charger name badge on anything other than a two-door. We'll be polite and leave the '80's four-cylinder front-wheel-drive Charger out of the discussion – oops. A company by the name of Force Performance is currently working hard to rectify the situation by chopping up an LX-based Dodge Charger into a coupe. As you can see from the pictures in our gallery, the scalloped doors from the 68-70 Charger have made the conversion along with a twin-nostril split grille reminiscent of the classic '69. We can also see a well-domed hood, which is necessary for clearance over the insane HEMI V8 engine that's both twin turbocharged and supercharged. Three blowers, hence the TriCharger name. Awesome.

            I'm here :D

Props to them for doing a 2 door. But it looks to much like the new Camaro thats coming out. Even the hood scoop looks like a enlarged verson of the 2ed and 4th gen Camaro scoops. Something like the "Air Grabber" on the 71 Chargers would of looked better. And lol at the FWD Chargers. Them things are little rockets when built.

I'll take a 1966 Charger with the 426 HEMI, 4spd, Dana rear, Buffed Silver with a red int. And blue line tires.

They're too fucking late. The Charger can eat a dick.

The new Challenger is the new hotness. I saw one in person at a car show a few weeks ago. Without question, THE HOTTEST throwback car that has yet come out.

My wife's brother in law is getting one as soon as they come out, he's already put down the deposit.

I agree, the new ones challengers are badass. Dunno if anyone reads hotrod magazine, they had a lil page detail about how dodge's settin one up for drag racing, got lexan windows and stuff like that. Absolutely badass looking. Just white w/ a flat black hood w/ a huge scoop. Was gorgeous.

I'd have to agree. I'm usally a hater of new cars, but i do like the new Challenger. The exhaust note needs to be improved on though. And i'd like to see a vinyl top option too.

Eh, not feeling it. I'm rapidly losing interest in the LX platform as a whole, anyway. Chrysler gained cool points with the Challenger, but for the most part, they are still basically churning out crap nobody wants.....

As far as the Charger, I liked the original concept the most.

I was born & raised in a muscle-car family. Dad was into Fords and raced them in the 60's and early 70's, and there was always a racing engine in the basement that either he was building for himself, or for someone else. My eldest brother became a big Dodge Boy and to this day owns a numbers-matching '70 Dodge Demon 340 6-pack GSS (Grand Spaulding car), that came with the Rallye package including the pistol grip 4-speed and 150mph speedo. Even my sister got into the act with a '71 Duster (340, 727 Torqueflite). What I always wanted, though, was a '70 Challenger RT. Needless to say, living in Detroit and working literally 5 miles from Chrysler World Headquarters meant that I waited with anticipation for the Challenger to make the transition from concept car to reality. I went to the car show and begged for (and got) the t-shirt they were handing out. I drooled over ever curve of the car, pored over every article and every tidbit of info that was coming out. I registered with Dodge as a member of the website and kept the plastic membership card they made for me at the car show (registered with my name, email, etc), and went to the local Dodge dealers before they were released to get in line for one. Finally, here came the car...

...meh. They fucking screwed the pooch AGAIN (I'm counting the trip from concept to road car with the Charger as #1)! The Challenger, at 4146 pounds is only 95 lbs less than the Charger, mostly due to the need to build in additional support for side impact protection, since the car doesn't have the meaty b-pillars of the sedan chassis. This means it's not more than a tenth or so faster than the Charger SRT-8,which is way more usable. In addition, you can only get an automatic transmission that has the same exact problems and too-slow response as the AMG Mercedes-Benz I got rid of when I recently returned to the E30 fold. Why? Because it is basically THE SAME TRANSMISSION. I hated it, and can describe in detail all of its shortcomings (I'll spare you now).

Just down the street from me is a good neighbor of mine who is a Chrysler executive. He got one of the first 50 produced on a temporary basis (still has it), and he let me check it out in person. It looks and feels HUGE in person once you get in. You can't tell where the corners of the car are. Basically, it looks and feels like it's only good in a straight line. Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so.

So, it's back to hoping and wishing for the domestic carmakers to get their act together. Camaro, maybe? *fingers crossed*

BTW, I hope no one interprets this as an anti-Dodge or anti-domestic-carmaker rant. In fact, I can go on and on about how BMW messed up the 1-Series. See my sig!

I wish the challenger went more in this direction.
