    A proper introduction (with pics)

Hello all. I've actually had my car for some months now but never actually got around to taking pics until now. The car was being sold on Autotrader by an older fellow who recently purchased a 335i Auto since the arthritis in his left leg was giving him trouble with the 5spd on the e30. I made the phone call, set up an inspection, and flew to Dallas in May and drove the 1,100 odd miles back to Cleveland without a hitch. It currently has 178k on the clock and is more or less stock save for the smoked smileys, Z3 1.9 shifter, and oil temp/pressure gauges in the console.

I've already gone through the necessary waterpump & timing belt, along with all the other goodies you'd replace on a car of this vintage. Runs great as-is but come spring (and more $$$) we'll start getting into some suspension and motor mods. Shadowlining and stereo stuff when I get around to it.

I spent awhile looking for this color combo and had almost lost hope. After a deal with an e34 540i M-Sport fell through, I stumbled upon this one while bored at work. No regrets - and no car payment

Anyways - on with the pics (btw, I'm not a photographer so quality is so-so).

The Cardinal looks very bright in the pics but in person it's much darker.

Beautiful car! The interior is the exact opposite of mine (I've got red carpet and black seats).

Anxious to see where this one goes. Looks like it's really in fantastic shape.

I look forward to seeing where you take this car, but I wouldn't mind seeing it left alone either. :D

Some leatherique and dye would bring those seats back to life!

Thanks for the kind words. I like my cars to remain relatively stock-looking. Maybe some call it OEM+?? I dunno. But the car is so damn clean and I want to keep it that way. Tasteful - that's the word I'm looking for...

I think this car is great for a first-time Bimmer owner like myself. I'm sure if I would have picked up the 540i it would have been a great car but maintenance scared me a bit. Someday, though...

Leatherique will definitely be in the works. I've got to find something else to practice on first. I'm about to take ownership of my cousin's '91 525i here shortly. It's got 200k on it and the driver's seat will make a nice practice piece.

I'm not sure what to do with the bumpers just yet. The DBs have such a classic appeal that reminds me of my '66 Chrysler. The Euro bumpers seem to maintain that same appeal but with a cleaner, less bulky appearance. We'll see.

The car also needs a slight drop too. I think an H&R/Bilstein combo would bring it down about an inch and work ok for the street. I'll know more by springtime. Oh yeah, the Z3 shifter works very well for anyone DD'ing their e30. Highly recommended!

Other than that - I plan on driving it. All over the place.

Car looks very nice. I'm a big fan of the Cardinal interior. Its my favorite for e30s/e28. My e28 has Cardinal with black carpet, although I believe some later e30s had full cardinal interiors that came with red carpet as well. I think the contrast is nice with the black carpet tho, although red carpet with black seats would be nice as well.

Are those smoked headlights? The car looks very good with them and the smoked turn signals. Seems like all it needs is H&R/Bilstein combo you mention and some wheels to make it a very good looking early iS.

+ I like the color, same as my 87 vert which also has the iS front airdam and trunk spoiler. I would just tuck the front bumper. Euro bumpers do make it look less bulky while maintaining that 'classic' appeal, but the don't come cheap and you'd lose the front airdam, which IMO is one of the best looking of any BMW made. The only one I'd feel that would adequately replace it would be a euro bumper/Alpina cowcatcher combo. Keep us updated..
My e30 and e28 are both up for sale::

                            Welcome to R3V

You could tuck the bumpers, I think they look pretty good and am going to do this to my car.

do not tuck the bumpers ghetto style though , if you want them shorter , go with late style ( 89 - 90 ) convertible bumper shocks , they are stock and tuck the big db's perfectly in my opinion and you keep the 87 IS spoiler , thats what I did with mine and love it.
