    BMWCCA Club Racing..... Spec E30???

I've heard through the grapevine that the BMWCCA club racing board is going to create a Spec E30 class. I believe it will be similar to the Spec Miata class that is so popular in the SCCA.

Anyone have any info on this class? I couldn't find anything on the BMWCCA club racing website. I dont think they've actually created the class yet, so I doubt there is much info...

Did another search and came up with some info,

Looks like the series is based on the east coast. Hopefully it will grow. Sounds like a great concept.

Local racers in Confrence (ICSCC, the guys that I race with) have their own version of SPEC E30, we call it PRO3. They are stock based cars, with the only modifications allowed being exhaust, chip and suspension (to be vague). It's fun times. 8)

The group has been running for about 2 years now, primarily in the mid-atlantic region with the Virginia chapter of NASA. BMWCCA has shown zero interest in the class, so I imagine that you won't see anything come of it on that front. (If you notice, they're actually aligned with NABR on the west coast, the "rival" of BMWCCA out there) There's currently about 9-10 cars showing up at the events, with another 7-8 cars nearing completion. The entire concept of the series is a complete car for 10k or under. You run stock motors with a stock ECU, OTS bilstein sports, suspension techniques sways, and the H&R "Race" springs. You can run either a 14 or 15 inch wheel with a 205 width Toyo Proxes RA1.

I also think it's funny that you said "that spec miata class that is so popular in the SCCA". It is NASA that has run the class for so many years, and made it as popular as it is now. SCCA had to practically be dragged kicking and screaming into allowing the SM's to run at their events, with this "hankook challenge" thing they've started in the last 2 years.

Don't take me as a bitter SCCA/NASA guy, it's just that I've gotten the chance to do more track days in 8 months as a NASA member than in 6 years of SCCA membership. NASA is a much more tuned in group when it comes to the real race guys. The SCCA doesn't seem to care much unless you're a 65 year old guy running a 35 year old british car in "production" races.

Yup. I highly doubt Spec E30 will run with BMW CCA.. I've been on the group almost a year and half now....

But I have to say, depending what your CCA Chapter is about, you might get more DE than NASA though, but I'm with Charlie. Our chapter doesn't do much, but Sunshine Beemers (another FL chapter) does plenty.

              AU contraire!

BMW CCA Club racing locally (Tarheel Chapter- NC) has recognized the SpecE30 class- and allowed them to run in the local club races- but they do not have any "official" category for Spec E30 cars, so they get lumped into K-prepared class (for "i" cars) or M-prepared ("e" cars) in the CCA stats. The SpecE30 organizer(s) simply keep their own stats based on the stats of whatever sanctioning body they run with, and keep track of season points, etc that way.

Join the SpecE30 Yahoo group for the most up to date info, and some lively e-discussions as the series grows. Also check www.specE30.com (links to the NorthAmericanBMWRace site- I think....).

Yeah they can run with groups (BMW CCA) but like you said its not an 'offical' class...

This was the "official" line from the BMWCCA. Pretty typical, seeing as they can't be bothered to enforce the rules in their "stock" classes, so they balk at trying to enforce the rules in a spec class.

I though it was funny that the article complains about the cost jump from their "stock" class racers with an unlimited shock & spring package to a simple off the shelf package. Seeing as the "hot" setup in something like K-stock would be Turner's J-stock pacakge which runs around 3k, compared to an OTS bilstein sport/H&R race combo that runs 1k max.
