shop tryin to rip me for a markd chip?

Quick question for you guys, I'm getting some work done at a shop and while it's there they said they can do a markD chip for my 318is, but they said they can get it emailed to them and they can burn it themselves onto the ECU, now I know this is possible for OBDII cars, but I thought you had to buy a physical chip for OBDI ECUs, is this possible?

Not unless they have a chip burner, no.

Sounds like they may be copying the chips illegally?

I was under the impression that MarkD has been having problems with people cloning them.

Yes, and give him all the details of that shop.

Yes, I bet he will give you a better deal on the chip than that shop. Rat those copyright infringers out.

I did email him this morning, but am yet to hear back from him, the shop said they buy from him directly and burn them at the shop, I just wasn't aware that there was a way to "burn" an obdI chip.

you can, if you have a blank EPROM and the burner.

btw MarkD/EAT does NOT sell the software alone, only in hard (physical chip) form!

Mark is a great guy, but sometimes a bit busy to reply quickly to emails....give him some time and he'll get to ya.

This is why he posted that thread about maybe not making chips anymore. Good thing someone caught this.

this is also why he wouldn't release a chip for a MAF/17.5#/93oct/6900rpm settup. But I wish he would...

let us know what happens with this, it would be nice to see someone brought to justice.
