    strange rattle racket

    Hey all,

I am really liking this place. Thanks for sharing.

Anyway I have to racket under my car.
-It happens when the clutch is out but not always. I don't have any clutch issues.
-It does not happen when the car is driving, at least I can't hear it if it does
-I can hear it when sitting at a light etc when I am in neutral with the clutch out but half the time you don't hear it.

I did some reading one day and it was mentioned that it could be the arm or the mounts. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can figure out what it is? Again, I really don't think it is the clutch.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

could be the lay shaft bearing in the tranny. if it is bad it will make noise that sound almost like a rod knock. it wont hurt anything though, it is a common problem. put some synthetic tranny fluid or gear oil (which ever one your tranny takes) and it will quiet it down some.

        Where under your car? f/r.
Be more specific. Could be heat shield, exhaust hangar, ect

it is your gears chattering in the transmission. when you put the car in neutral the transmission is connected to the engine, so things inside are turning although the car isnt moving. when you push the clutch in, things stop turning and therefore you stop hearing the chattering.

it sounds like it is somewhere under the motor. maybe the trans. it doesn't always happens but when it does it always goes away when i put the clutch in. I think I am going to have to just put the car up on jack stands and stands, start the car and look for the noise.

I don't think it is the trans or gears in the trans. I will get it up on stands in the next week. Maybe even today. Will keep you posted. Thanks.
