Hey everyone, new guy, new old E30....

Let me introduce myself, my name is Rick. I've been watching this site as well as e30tech for well over a year now, reading up all I could on these cars, once I knew I would get one next. Well, I recently got the exact car I've been looking for, rough around the edges and needs work but that seems to be the way I get my cars. I'm on several other car forums, in the past I've been a big GM fan, then opened the doors to Japaneese, then got my first Ford, now I figured I'd give European/German a try.

I've been fixing her up a bit so far (I've named her Noelle), the car is an absolute joy to drive/own. Beyond all the actual car stuff though, this car brought back my passion for cars that was lost when my 1993 Coupe DeVille was stolen (my first car that I was never going to sell) That was over 2yrs ago now, since then while I've maintained and kept my other cars up, the passion for the cars was gone, they sorta were more just a piece of equipment then anything, but I am glad to say this car brought everything back :)

Anyway, yeah my posts can tend to be long, so I'll try and keep the introduction message short. Glad to be here and I'll be pretty active on the forums in the coming days.

Here are a few pictures of Noelle:

And... for those who may be interested, are bored, or just want to look at pictures (plenty there!) You can check out my thread I made on the Caddy site about picking her up :) The '89 Fleetwood Brougham in some of the pictures was my mothers car for 9yrs, I had it almost a year but had alot going on and the car needed alot of work so I sold it to a friend who really appreciates it. That is the car that I learned to drive in when I was 15 and took my roadtest in when I was 16.

That looks exactly the same as when I got my vert. The zinno cleans up so well. Now I just hear of bad things happening to it, since I sold it....you found a clean example, now keep it.

Oh, she's not going anywhere, trust me :)

I don't know if ya'll caught the super mint one owner car just like this one that was on ebay several weeks back, What it came down to was that I didn't have $6,500 to spend on a car... I picked Noelle up for $2,500, tho she needs alot of work, I am able to do it. I'm a mechanic by trade (not on cars though) and cars are my hobby.

Just found out the BMW Zinnoberrot sticker on the strut tower is the name of the color. Paint is overall good, car is loaded with dings though that I'll take to a PDR person. The passenger fender has some bigger dents and clear coat is peeling (only spot on the whole car though) so I may end up getting a new fender and having it repainted when the time comes... for now I want to fix all the little problems with it, once that is done then I need to fix the suspension, which, to sum it up is basically trashed (worn out sway bar end links, struts/shocks totally shot).

Many, including myself call E30s a healthy addiction but that never seems to be the case for the wives or the girlfriends.

Oh well. . . . Welcome to R3V. You'll learn to love it here. Don't worry about the site veterans talking shit. They always will.

So once again, welcome and nice car.

Yo, man...kinda creepy that you named your car after my daughter.

They are the same year, too.

Not too sure how I am feeling about all that, but welcome to R3V.

Nice car. Clean and all, but you might wanna have a chat with your photographer about cutting down on the caffeine.

'93 caddy, huh? Y'ever hear a song called "Tennessee Plates" by John Hiatt? Being as you are from where you are, I am sure you are familiar with the whole Elvis/Graceland/Cadillac deal. If you don't know it, you should.

Hey everyone, thanks for the warm welcome :)

Plans for the car? Well, first is to bring her back to her formal glory, then go from there. I either like to keep my cars stock, or if I do mod them, then in a "could pass as factory" way, so that unless someone actually knew the cars, they wouldn't think anything of it. Personally, I know the E30 crowd frowns upon bottlecaps and diving boards, but on my car, I like both, so both are staying for now.

The short term plan is to fix the rest of the broken stuff, which actually the list is getting shorter and shorter, the cluster needs a total makeover though. Once that is done I gotta redo the suspension, the right sway bar end link on the front is shot, so both will be replaced, balljoints look newer, but tierod end boots are torn up, so I'll replace them, then new struts/shocks all around as they are totally shot, while I am in there probably replace springs too.

Then I would like to take the car to a paintless dent repair person and see what kind of magic they can work with all the dings, also try and find a dent-free red passenger fender, or otherwise get any fender and have it painted to try and match the car. the passenger fender has some bigger dents and clear coat fading, so it's beyond saving to me.

Really though, I bought this car because I wanted a sporty, fun to drive convertible, so I don't plan on doing anything crazy, maybe some performance mods down the road, but I just enjoy having and driving the car as it is. Something else I will be addressing is the sound system, music is a hobby to me, especially when I am driving, so I am going to get a newer headunit for the ipod/XM and new speakers all around. It wouldn't be so bad if the factory cassette worked as I could use the adapter, but it will take accept a tape, so it's just the FM... rear speakers in this car sound like junk, front sound good with the seperate tweeters in the doors, so for now they'll stay.

looks strait and clean, an uncracked dash too!

                          welcome to r3v
It's got a crack about an inch long in the center divder part of the "tray" in front of the passenger seat, as well as a small crack in the top left corner of the left A/C vent in the center stack, then the dash pad just over the A/C vents is slightly warped up a tad. I've been treating the interior with Aerospace303, which, well as it is advertised is sunblock for your car, it stops the UV rays from damaging it, so hopefully it won't get much worse, and may soften up over time.

Clean Vert. Were are you at in middle GA?
Just South of Macon :) Driving is one of my "things" though, I've been known to drive to Atlanta for the day just to go record (yes, vinyl... another hobby) hunting and get some good pizza....

You are hooked. Welcome to r3v. You're going to love the vert.
I sure are. Thanks. Already do :)

Welcome....you have excellent taste in cars. Nice interior...I'm getting ready to swap mine out to tan.
Yeah, the tan/black interior was a must for me. It's funny, like I said, I've been following E30's for some time, first it was going to be a 2-door, then I figured I would hold out, save a bit more up and get a convertible since I always wanted one... I first wanted any color BUT red, well, I went thru some changes myself personally and a week later it then turned to only red, and only with the tan interior.

Many, including myself call E30s a healthy addiction but that never seems to be the case for the wives or the girlfriends.
Heh, the same is said for folks into Isuzu trucks :)

Yo, man...kinda creepy that you named your car after my daughter.

They are the same year, too.

Heh.... same spelling too? On my list of favorite girl names, Noelle is among the top.... and it just fit her really well. Same age as the car too? So... my car is now 18, technically 19 since she was born July, 1989.... I guess that puts your daughter in my "range"! :::runs away::: :)

'93 caddy, huh? Y'ever hear a song called "Tennessee Plates" by John Hiatt? Being as you are from where you are, I am sure you are familiar with the whole Elvis/Graceland/Cadillac deal. If you don't know it, you should.
Oh no... as the locals would say it "I aint from roun' here" I am a New Yorker (not the city), lived in Clearwater, Florida a short time while I went to tech school, then moved here to Georiga for work, almost 2 years I've been here now.

Yeah, '93 Coupe DeVille (Madison), she'll always be my first [car] love. Useless Caddy info time: 1993 was the last year for the Coupe DeVille, her color was Slate Bronze Metallic, which was a 1993-only color. Only 119 were made. I had that car over 3yrs, and was going to keep it forever, I suppose the only way it would leave me was to be stolen, as it was from my apartment in FL when I was back in NY for a week :( Wheels are fromm a '98-'mid '01 Seville SLS.

Alright, I gotta stop with the Caddy stuff now :) If ya'll want to see more pictures of Noelle, check out the link to the Caddy site in my first post, it has the whole little story of my weekend when I went to get her, along with lots of pictures, I've also been updating it with the work I've been doing on her as well.

Heh, I'll throw this in the mix, a much older picture of the Coupe, but, this was 3 weeks after I got my license.... It isn't the Northstar, it's the 4.9, 200HP/275tq, fastest she ran was a 15.9@85mph, she went to the track several other times as well, car was stock. Original struts were pretty shot on that car as wel, as you could tell, this was really before I did any work to it, by the time I was done, the whole darn thing was nearly rebuilt.
