    shifter bushings

    Hi all,

How hard is it to put in new bushings into my shifter. the ones I have in there are shot and I see the kit for new parts is out there. I wonder how hard it is to do. Anyone have a 'how to' on it?

    Thanks
    Richard.

You need to drop the exhaust, heat shields, then the driveshaft. Then you can access the shifter. Nothing terribly hard, but a pain to take so much apart just to get to the shifter. That's my project this weekend.

Also keep in mind there are two types of shifters used in e30s when you order your parts.

I got a kit of sorts from BMAparts for $75 iirc. I installed a z4 2.5 shifter at the same time. BTW I did not drop the exhaust or the driveshaft. On M42 cars at least, it is easy enough to just pull the heatshield.

let me know how it goes and how long it took. I am in no hurry because I did not order the kit yet but I think I am going to. I need to keep this car for a while but if I do sell it that will be a hard one to explain.

            thx.

if you're gonna change the shift carrier bushing, you might want to unbolt the tranny brace so you have enough room to remove the bitch clip, if you're changing just the shifter you dont need to drop exhaust, it's not even in the way.
