    Pealing Kindey Chrome

So I was going to repaint my kidneys to black but I noticed the chrome finish is peeling off on the sides. Someone recommended I should use some filler and cover those spots, then sand, and paint normally. Or should I just try to peel off all the chrome, sand, and then paint? What do you guys recommend.

    Thanks

I would recommend finding another set. you can just sand down the edge where the chrome is, but in a little while the other chrome will start peeling to.

dont sand it, its a waste of time and it comes out uneven. ask me how i know. just find a good set form the junk yard. used this stuff called plasti-dip. its not like regular paint when you spray it it turns into a plastice layer creating a satin finish which is badass and clean, and it doesnt chip at all.

Does plastidip fade? How long have you had yours?

Wish I would have checked this thread earlier. I ended up using filler. One kidney came out perfect while the other needs to be redone.

Oh and should I be using primer/clear coat, and if so what kind do you guys recommend?

Just peel the chrome off. My brother has done multiple sets this way. It actually peels off pretty nicely.

plastidip does not fade either, and you do not need to go through the sanding and all that trouble, just shooting it, get a few coats on there and your golden. My chrome pieces would not come off as nicely so thats why i would recommend you to just get some junk yard pieces.

Your being way to serious about this just find a set off a junker car that has no dents, ruff it up a little with some sand paper and spray the hole kiddney assembly as one with sem trim paint. and if in a year it chips oh well takeit off the car and hit it again. i dont recommend this kind of lazy half ass work on parts that dont come off easy or are expensive but the kidneys are neither so DO IT.

They're like 5 bucks at any junk yard, and not hard to find in a condition way better than yours. If you're really that worried about it happening again, it looks like it could be peeled off. Get some chrome paint, tape off the grill part and shine it up.

                          I'd just get another set.

Yea they were painted black. I was just wondering what I should do before paint since I couldn't just paint over while it's pealing and didn't want to spend my time pealing it all off.

I think I'll just pick up a ebay ABS plastic set so I don't have to bother with painting and also the clips are broken.
