Let me just cut and paste this response in from another very familiar post of recently.. If your going to do a job, at least don't be lazy and do it right. Here's my response to all this VW/ Rat Rod/ BS craze that everyone is following behind.

The true rat rod "look" comes from mimicking a time when cars just went fast with or without brakes. Today, the cars that can pull it off are almost from that time period (well, not really) and it's just cool to see them even on the road.

Here is one of my favorite e28's in example number 2. Your car started out with some very similar styling/ performance modifications.



The real problem is the two worlds/ styles just do not mix. It's like pickles and chocolate milk... Ever combine the two? Don't. It sucks. If you're going to go and do something 'redefining', then you are going to have to work at it. You can't just see what someone else has already done, mix the two and BAM! You have created something new or have done it first. You have to work for originality. If you have created something truly original, people will stand behind you. That brings us to example #3

Your car looks like crap. Looked better before. Maybe you should re-evaluate your situation renting a 3 bedroom house. Sounds to me like you would do fine in a tent down by the river. That should free up enough dough to get some masking tape. And brown? WTF that was probably the worst choice on color. Oh yea, haven't heard if you knew, but "racing" isn't cheap, either. Are you planning on getting some old tires and painting them black to look new? What happens when a rocker arm breaks? If anything we look spoiled because we either save up money for big mods, or spend it on small touches that help the overall aesthetics of our cars.

Who cares if they hate on you, you know your own story and don't need to prove anything to anyone. I'm pretty damn sure if you were like half the kids here (didn't have a house) you would probably have a sick as e30.
