get a 325e. if your 16 and want a e30 that is the best way to go. mostly because of how well they do on gas. it is amazing having a 325e for me

          Seriously seven pages?

Buy what you can afford. That includes the price of gas.

Is this something you are gonna be daily driving, and trying to drift? Because I would strongly recommend against that. You don't want to drift something that you rely on to get around.

If you have other transportation available, get anything with an i motor, basically make sure it says 325i on the back, not 325, not 325e. Normally I don't recommend a specific model, as they all serve their purpose, but for drifting you want an i. You'll need LSD, so a 325is would be good, but not necessary, you can always swap later.

You sound like you want to keep it on the track, that's good. I'm inclined to agree with everyone, go to a HPDE first with your local BMWCCA, then find where the local amateur drifting is, and you can learn there. Also research the theory behind it before you blindly try it. I recommend the drift bible to start, you can pick it up on amazon.

This whole thread reminds me of me when I was 16 and bought a 318i with a 4.10 lsd. Boy was I rippin up some rubber..

You are young, I doubt you've driven both the 325i and the 318i and thats why you're asking.
Get behind the wheel of one and then use your own judgement and what these guys here are tellin you and it should put you in the seat of honda. lol. but no really, You should sit in a 89 or later 318i. They come with the lsd and the is comes with the 4.10 lsd that you will want for any type of burnin' rubba. they also have rear disc brakes which come in handy.

You will need to first drop it some inches and get some stiff springs/shocks/coilovers to help reduce roll wich these cars are notorious for. then get some light weight wheels most likely alum. and some winter tires and you should be set.

Please do us all a favor and dont go get a fancy e30 thats original and in great condition and then waste it drifting. Get something with torn leather or cloth seats....

This thread is already way too long, but I guess I'll throw in my 2 cents as well: when the autocross season starts up again, take your car to one. They are cheap, fun, and it is difficult to damage your car. Don't worry about drifting at all until you have a very good idea how your car responds and what your skill level is. After the autocross, sign up for a couple of HPDEs. You happen to be in teh perfect area to get started in this. Autocrossing will give you a rudimentary idea of what you are doing. If your tires are skidding when you are going around a corner, there is a faster way to do it.

I am not a fan of drifting; probably never will be. It does, however, take a great deal of skill. Just keep it off the streets (which you seem to understand, and for that I commend you).

i do plan on dailying the car, but the fact that i mentioned the word
"drift" got way over looked.I plan to do autox and track events alot more than tryin to drift.
