I thought the stock airbox was almost exactly the same idea, only with a large plenum to slow air down before and after the filter. I just replaced a cone filter with the stock airbox on my M3, and there's a noticeable increase in low-end torque. The engine seems to run better, too.

        not worth the effort.

you know,i recall someone waaaay back when testing the STOCK airbox on a 325is with and without the 'horn' [velocity stack, if you will] that is inside the STOCK airbox. And what did they find? The airbox without the horn made LESS power than with. Something to the order of 5ftlbs at the rear wheels. okay, maybe not that much, but less no matter the case.

The designers at BMW back in the 80's made a far better product than the shade tree mechanic visiting Home Depot. A+ for effort!

it may only be a 1/2 hp, but im sure it makes the car sound sick. M20s arent known for their power, but the sound of a CAI may be worth it to some people. I personally think it sounds awesome. Same reason people get aftermarket exhausts. Its mainly for that sexy exhaust tone, maybe a little weight reduction. From the info ive gathered the stock exhaust was almost perfect and you cant gain much power from changing it

modifying exhaust and intake are mainly for the sound on semi-stock cars, your not gonna see a huge gain by modifyin either of them. I commend what Kamotors is doing and i think its great, there really isnt any affordable name brand CAI's for the m20, and he has brought an affordable solution to those who want it

you know that at high speeds where you are picking up your air there is a very low pressure area.

yes I know but i made this so people dont remove their headlights. its more of a CAI than ram air setup.

except you get cooler air and sounds, I made this so people stop taking out high beams for there filter to get cool air. people buy these things because they dont like being stock, and people dont buy these things because they like OEM.

i would recommend you try to rid youself of the afm before you try to make a siiqqq intake for your m20

i had megasquirt and hated it, I think the m30 AFM i have is good enough. I'm trying to sell something that everyone who wants it can use it. people generally like the idea of a CAI thats why so many people buy these things for their cars, whether they buy it for looks, sound or whatever.

I'm off to pick and pull now to go get an airbox to test, I dont see how the temps could be cooler than the outside temp but I'm very willing to give it a try. If the temps are equal to outside temps, I'll admit that the stock airbox works very well. I'll continue to sell these because that means they aren't losing any performance when buying this, they get a nice looking 8" cone filter and they get the sounds that come with it.

You do know that the stock airbox works great and already has a "cold air" inlet and even a trumpet inlet to the AFM.

I know, its been said a few times, this isn't aimed at the people who like there airbox, its aimed at the people who install conefilters without shields, and who remove there headlight thinking its giving them ram air. the stock air box is very well designed, but some people dont like being stock.
