parting out DSM, what to do w/ $$$

just got $500 for the tranny!!!! the revenue from the DSM is going 100% to e 30 mods. what would you do with the first 500? im going for the 2.7i swap first, then wheels (which i will have a few questions about), then bottom end refreshment. then its TURBO. whoa im getting waaay ahead of myself. im super stoked and ready to dump some money into the old girl. she definately deserves it! oh and cosmetics are dead last on my list sorry:p.

    Have you lowered it yet?

And your list is terribly out of order. Do the bottom end work first, then build the engine up, THEN do wheels.

I'd say put the $500 towards an "i" motor conversion. Having a 2.7i wont matter that much if you are going to turbo it anyway. Just seems like more hassle than it's worth unless you are going for stupid power, and at that point starting with an M30 or M50 would be a better option.

        Has to be said,

Screw all that, buy an m52/s52,

        Then go from there.

I've got to be honest-- turbo M20>NA M52/S52.

          It's just the truth.

the car has a slight drop on some mystery springs. the 18's make it sit higher. the springs are red and say made in germany.

yea you're right im going to do the 2.7i conversion and rebuild the bottom end all at the same time. honestly i'd love an s50/52 swap. but thats a little out of my league price wise, and i would not swap out a non //M engine unless it was damn near free. the engine overhaul is now a necesity because of all my small oil leaks that are now beyond my control. this engine is just tired.

the m30 swap is an option i actually have two sitting at the shop where i work. there is just something appealing about a 2.7i to me. i thinks its because i am lucky enough to own a super eta. in my opinion. all of our iron block big displacement straight 6's deserve a turbo.

finally, i will be looking for somewhat "stupid power" once im ready for turbo. im thinking with a fresh 2.7i, 275-325 reliable wheel horsepower with megasquirt for tuning.

have an m50 on the shelf at the shop too! it is gunked and sludged to hell though.

                      m20 turbo = $$

                      m50 turbo = $$$$4$$4$$

m50 turbo is better and not much more $$$.

                          the m50 has Knock Sensors

Hotwire MAS as opposed to the flapper.

if you can get the M50 clean it up pop head off and rerplace the head gasket with a cometic unit. stud head, apply boost, change pants when you do test drive...

I have a DSM back round as well (GVR4 as well as NABR) The M50 is a better candidate for swap and boost(IMO)
