    increase torque.

they make stahl knock offs in china too now.
the bad thing about the stahl headers is, even though they aer a TRUE long tube header they can even drag on stock height cars. so if you are dragging and denting up your tubing, you are reducing the flow of your headers and jacking up your $600 headers. if you are set on these, you might want to consider the china knock off's for around $250 or so off of EBay.

the china headers that everyone are calling Budget beater headers no longer are produced new. the current ones on the market are a long-ish mid length header. they were tested by DC colegrove on his frankin car and made good power and torque. they were not with out their faults as in thinner than optimum tubing, OK welds (lots of spatter on the inside of the tubing), but as far as bang for the buck they are hard to beat.
the budget beater headers were the first gen knock off copies of Alpina headers. most of the bugs have been worked out as far as poor manufacturing issues. and $200 new sure beats $300+ used for headers that make power.

What if you just got a skid plate with those Stahl long tube headers...
      Wouldn't that solve the problem?

you would have to get a custom made skid then.
everyone want to tell you to buy the expensive headers, but none of them have put out the cash.
take a look on EBay.de and look at the used stahl headers, they all have drag marks on the bottom rear tubes/collectors.

i have also heard that the stahl headers are now being made in china anyways. look at the ads, they sure look the same. maybe it is true maybe not.

search the thread by DC colgrove on Chinese headers. look at his results

I'd pay the extra money for headers that fit to be fair I was more mad at the fucker selling them than the actual manufacturer. And they were Supersprint knockoffs, not that it matters.

Look the same as what? They certainly don't look like ebay headers...But they may be made in China. IIRC the BB headers were made in Taiwan, he claimed better quality SS than Chinese...

OK here comes a BUNCH of links:
first the cheapest you can find the china mid/long tube design that is a copy of the ALPINA/HARTGE design
                  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3AIT&viewitem=

here are the china made STAHL (style) copies

                  HARTGE (real) "mid length" header

this is being advertised as a stahl header (although i have not completely translated the ad, this same seller has been selling these headers in ads that i have completely translated as original stahl headers) to the best of my knowledge STAHL never offered this style of header. correct me if i am wrong

it certainly looks like the china made mid length..........

                  another one

directly from the STAHL PDF it is not a very good pic though
ACP Headers will continue Building top quality race headers, parts, and accessories in Harrisburg, PA.

i had some old ads saved on my ebay account with ALPINA headers but i guess they have redesigned that and my archives are gone

here is a not very good pic of an E30 ALPINA header (you can see how short the primaries are and the collectors

the supersprint are copies fo ALPINA/HARTGE headers in the mid legnth.
the cross over (X) is something i have seen on supersprints though

Daniel, if you were thinking of making your own E-30 headers GREAT!
i doubt that you would be able to sell them for the $300 range though.
you would want to make them too high quality, and never be able to sell them to E30 owners @ $700, unfortunately

you want cheap go to ebay

edit: the headers IE "made" are chinese headers available on ebay, they arent real long tubes either

the real question is do you need headers?
yeah i do i plan on running hopefully long tube headers with a strait 2.5 exhaust
