    E30 buying guide?

I'm looking into the market for an E30. I have my eyes on a 1991 318is.
I come from VWs and am fairly noob to these vehicles. So, with that in mind I'm looking for some pre-buying advice, what to look for/check, and common problems, reliablity etc.

I have done some research and have notably found common issues with the timing cover profile gasket, water pump, throttle body gasket, lower control arm bushings, and head gaskets. I do understand that gaskets are wear and tear items, and they of course will be needed to be replaced at one point, but information on how to check for leaks etc would be appreciated.

Also, in terms of checking issues, things like water leaks in the trunk, or common rust areas would be great.

Thank you for the advice, input, and help. I hope to become a E30 driver soon!

rust: check the front jack points, and the taillights. (I just found some rust bubbles on the rear taillights on my car, I'm not thrilled.) Also, make sure the timing belt has been replaced recently, and water pump as well. Depending on your location, 2500 should net you a pretty good one. Wear on the seat bolsters will be common. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting though.. good luck, they're really great, fun cars.

no crappy belt to worry about.. just check for loud chain rattle on cold startups. early signs that the chain tensioner is failing.
