    sad sad story

Well im new here but I thought I would vent a little bit. So im searching for an e30 to buy and i stumble upon a black 1990 325is for 3500 bux (a steal here in WA) on autotrader. The mileage is at about 160k and the owner just put a new fan clutch, water pump, and timing belt in. I figure I couldnt find any better so along with James Crivilone and another friend we drive to Olympia WA and check out this e30. Its a beautiful car. Runs great, looks great and aside from some minor work, It is perfect. I tell the owner I am very interested but I need to get the money situation worked out and I will give him a call the next day. So come the next day, I get the money situation worked out in the morning and give him a call in the afternoon. "Hey whats up?"
    "Oh nothing much"
"Cool, so im just callin to check up on the car. Is it still there?"
    "nope sold it this morning"
"haha good one. When can i come pick it up?"
"No really, I sold it this morning for 4k"
    "Oh really?"
    "Yeah sorry man"
"oh thats ok theres plenty of cars like that out there for 3500 bux, thanks anyways" (NOT!!)
    "ok later"
Yeah, sorry for being a woman and bitching about this but my heart is officially broken . I think ill go cry now.

that's brutal. to me, if someone says they are going to call tomorrow after checking their finances, that means i should wait for them. sorry man, DON'T GIVE UP THOUGH!!

You should have left a DEPOSIT for the car!

When you sell anything you ALWAYS get "tire kickers".

If some one wants it they will leave a deposit, or it's up for sale to the first person with $$. It's not personal, it's business.

          i wouldn't call 3500 a steal in WA :p but a fair price.

i paid 2800$ for mine when the used car lot had an asking price of about 4k. So far i've had very little problems (james came along to do a quick look over it). I'm very pleased with my purchase, the color wasn't my fav at first, but its rarity is starting to grow on me. I've got a couple dents in the body here and there that i gotta find a way to pop though, otherwise its time to buy new body panels

good luck with your search, mine was about a year long or so.

Hey man, try to think positive... it took me a long time to find my E30 and I looked at many examples along the way... It will come, just be patient and wait for the right one!

Damn man, that does suck. I found mine after looking at only two others. The price was $3800 and I got it for $2800 tax included. That's not a bad deal at all. I need to have one decent sized dent repaired and some paint, but other than that it's in great physical appearance.

Regardless, I'm changing so many things on the car it really would have been pointless to go shopping for the perfect E30. I'd rather have a good deal on the car and change the things that need changing myself.

So you're pissed because he sold it to a guy that actually had the money?

Heh, mine wasn't in very good condition safety-wise, but when I got mine it was actually just a car I stumbled onto. It was for 1000 bucks. a nice 85 318i that runs fine. Needs some basic maintence still sorted out (I'm poor! :() I need to get a new timing belt (dunno when last one was put on... :-x) and a valve angle adjustment. I wanna get my radiator system flushed before too much longer. Its probally been sitting there forever. I'll probally try and do that in the next few days. I get three off from work. :D Anyhow, just thought I'd reply. I'm sorry you couldn't find your car. :( I didn't know how lucky I was until I started talking to other people on here - and now I'm really proud of my car. :)

Same thing happened to my sis. Took a test drive and there were other people waiting when we returned. With cash. Cannot complain.

I found my car. And when he asked if I was interested in checking it out/test driving it and maybe coming back up later. Then I said "I got a cashier's check with your name on it." Went up, saw it, drove it.....paid for it, drove it home.

Of course, it was exactly what i wanted. It had GC suspension and 16" wheels. And very awesome price. 8) Oh, and it was a BMWCCA member, so I granted a little trust.

Your car doesn't have a timing belt, and I can't think of any car where you can adjust the valve angle. You should sell your car to your mother and buy a civic.

do you really think someone else came along within 24hrs and offered 4k? i'm not saying this happened, but there is a chance that for one reason or another the owner didnt want to sell it to you. if you have the time, maybe you should try calling from a different number using a different name and see if the car is there or not. the only reason i say this is becuase my dad did this to some 22yr old (who obviously had money) who wanted to buy his cream puff gs400. the potential buyer went on to say that he was going to paint it red, put a body kit on, etc; so my dad just told him he got a better offer the next day. the situation was a little different, but maybe its worth a shot to call and see.

...same thing happened to me a few years back. Lesson learned....ALWAYS leave a deposit even if its $20.

Anytime I sold off one of my cars, no deposit meant you're not 100%. As soon as someone showed me the money or left a deposit they were the next owner.
