Need some quick help... shifter ball nylon bushing

So I'm sitting here dumbfounded, wondering why this focking thing won't go in its damn hole. Maybe I'm a bit slow, but could someone please give me a bit of help? I've been staring at this thing for a good amount of time and haven't been able to figure anything out.

Not only this, but today I was also installing some US ellipsoids and as I was mounting one of them, the lens just FELL OFF and shattered into a million pieces on the ground... I did all the wiring for the sealed-->ellipsoid conversion and that happens... great.

Nevermind, the late model bushing doesn't go into an early model. =/
