why, when it is way easier and FACTORY to put in a 2.0 A-2 golf/jetta motor instead and use factory parts?

i bet all of those syncros have this done to them

I am scoping a syncro as we speak. I am working on a E30 for a syncro trade. Will let you know how it goes.

The only issue I have heard about the golf swap was the 50 degree operating angle of the motor. Also you need a diesel transaxle to do this. Rare thing the diesel syncro is. I had a diesel westie I was going to convert but had to move out of state so I sold it.

True, the 2.0 is a good motor.

also the 1.9 diesel works, and torque would be good in this situation.

Actually this car was featured in Hot Rod Magazine's July issue. I can't find the damn thing in my pig sty of a room, or I'd tell you who built it.

get a hold of Overland parts in Gilroy, CA.
they sell the correct oil pan and everything else for the swap. synco's are pretty popular in Canada, my freind used to build/do the conversions for side money and that's were he got a lot of his spare parts.

if you want to go all out, 2.0 bubble block or a ABA "tall block", TDI crank, ABA rods, custom pistons, P & P ABA head and a 272 cam. that will give you a 2165 CC syncro torque monster (well torque monster for a syncro that is) he has that combo in his camping syncro. all the power he ever needs to go anywhere.

My dad used to have a '64 Microbus with a Corvair Flat 6 in it. He did the conversion in the early to mid 70's and said it was way better than the stock motor. Only problem was that it leaked and burned a quart every 60 miles.

Yes, every 60 miles, like a cloud of blue smoke that followed him around.

Thanks bro. What you don't see in the pics is the rash of dents on the rear driver's side (which I'm considering having removed as I like this car more and more the longer I own it). Also, those wheels were not part of the deal, but the whole set only put me back $200 so no big deal. Currently running the A4 "swing" wheels that the car came with on snows.
